What Are The Potential Benefits Of A2 Ghee

Benefits of A2 Ghee

A2 Ghee is a type of clarified butter that is made from the milk of cows that only produce the A2 beta-casein protein, while traditional ghee is made from regular cow’s milk that contains a mix of A1 and A2 proteins. Some proponents of A2 ghee claim that it may offer several health benefits over traditional ghee. Let’s explore them in this article.

Potential Benefits Of A2 Ghee

  • Easier Digestion: A2 ghee is believed to be easier to digest than traditional ghee due to the absence of the A1 beta-casein protein, which can cause digestive issues in some people.
  • Higher Nutritional Value: A2 ghee is rich in several important nutrients, including vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as calcium and phosphorus. These nutrients are essential for maintaining healthy bones, teeth, and skin.
  • Better Heart Health: A2 ghee is believed to offer several health benefits over traditional ghee, including improved heart health, immune system function, and reduced inflammation.
  • Less Allergenic: Some people may be allergic to the A1 beta-casein protein found in traditional ghee and dairy products, but A2 ghee may be less allergenic and easier for them to tolerate.
  • Environmentally Sustainable: A2 cows are typically smaller in size and require less food and water than conventional dairy cows, which may make them a more environmentally sustainable option for dairy production.

However, it is important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the potential health benefits of A2 ghee. Additionally, while A2 ghee may be a good option for some people, it may not be necessary or beneficial for everyone. It is always recommended to consult with a healthcare professional before making any changes to your diet or nutrition plan.

Breaking the Ramadan Fast with Healthy Bites

Ramadan Fast

The holy month of Ramadan is auspicious for the Islamic Community across the world. During this period, one practices restraint by fasting from sunrise till sunset, eating one meal before dawn i.e. the ‘suhoor’ or ‘sehri’ and breaking the fast with a meal after sunset i.e. Iftar.

While this sort of fasting comes with a plethora of health benefits, it is important to do it the right way! Balancing nutrition and exercising portion control is key to staying healthy while observing a fast during Ramadan. Here are some foods that will help you do just that!

Foods You Should Eat

  • Drinks: Ideally, the best way to break a fast is by consuming plenty of fluids to replenish your body. You can opt for smoothies, fruit juices or even water which provides hydration without extra calories or sugars. You can also opt for a soup, which is considered traditional in many Arab countries.
  • Fruits and Vegetables: Fruits provide your body with the much needed natural sugars loaded with vitamins and minerals that will boost your energy levels. In addition, adding a serving of vegetables with high fiber content will help you digest your food better and feel full for a longer period of time.
  • Dates & Dry Fruits: have been traditionally eaten to break a fast. You can follow this up with dry fruits.  You can try Jagger Bombs by WeDesi for a healthy and fun twist to dry fruits! Each Jagger Bomb contains dry fruits such as pistas, almonds, foxnuts, cashews bound with organic jaggery, gondh and pure cow ghee to give you all the essential nutrients you need while breaking a fast. You can get them at a discount from the GOQii Health Store within the GOQii App.
  • Rice & Alternatives: Brown rice, black rice, wholegrain noodles, wholegrain pasta or wholemeal bread are complex carbohydrates that provide a slow, stable and sustainable release of energy. Plus, they replenish your body with essential fibers and minerals after fasting.
  • Meat: Choose protein-rich sources such as lean meat, chicken, fish, eggs, etc. Proteins are the building blocks for healthy bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. They also aid to build and repair tissues. It’s a must have when you have fasted for around 18 hours.

Foods You Should Avoid

The foods listed above will help you stay healthy during Ramadan but it is imperative to maintain caution with what you eat. Here are a few foods you can exclude from your meals.

  • Processed/Oily Foods: These contain less nutrients and more fat. This can lead to acidity, nausea, heartburn and indigestion. Consume food with lesser oil and avoid packaged or junk food at all costs.
  • Salty Foods: Avoid anything that is too salty especially during Suhoor. Salty foods increase thirst and can leave you dehydrated.
  • High-Sugar Foods: We all know by now that excess sugar in the body is stored as fat. Consuming high-sugar foods and drinks can lead to weight gain, sluggishness and fatigue.

Caution & Safety

Fasting is good but fasting the right way is equally important. Here are some things you need to watch out for while fasting during Ramadan.

  • Don’t Miss Sehri or Suhoor: Think of this as your breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day as it keeps your energy levels high throughout. This meal stores important nutrients in your body and keeps you going through the day. Skipping this meal can cause digestive discomfort, making your body sluggish. Moreso, it may compel you to overeat while breaking your fast which may lead to acidity, heartburn, bloating and weight gain.
  • If you experience dizziness, are unable to stand or feel disoriented, hydrate yourself immediately. Not doing so may lead to fainting, constipation, or splitting headaches. Dehydration can adversely affect your health.
  • Eat in Moderation: It is easy to get carried after while breaking a fast and overindulging with large portions. Avoid this and keep a constant check on your portion size. Remember to eat and not feast.
  • Limit Exercise: If you have been fasting, doing intense exercises may not be the wisest of choices. Perform extremely light workouts and don’t go overboard as your body needs to conserve energy.

Can’t Lose Weight? Try Intermittent Fasting!

intermittent fastingIt’s true that you can summit any mountain given you have the fortitude, mental strength and willpower. But more often than not, we come across weight loss struggles that no treadmill or fad diet in the world can solve. While you hack and plough your way through every routine your trainer throws at you with little or no results, your ideal weight seems that much farther from you. If you can’t lose weight, the answer doesn’t lie in pushing yourself to extremes. The answer, in fact, is quite simple. Two words: Intermittent Fasting!

What is Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting simply means fasting for 15-16 hours post your dinner before breaking the fast with breakfast. If you are currently fasting for 12 hours post-dinner, then gradually increase it to 13 hours the first week and then 14 for the following to reach up to 16 hours of fasting time.

If you feel hungry, wait it out. Drink a large glass of water and distract yourself with something non-food related. You can make this more effective for weight loss by keeping a gap of a minimum of 4 hours between each meal, ensuring you start each meal with protein-rich foods. So ideally, you can have a breakfast of nuts, fruits and cereals at 10am, followed by lunch at 2pm which includes beans/pulses with rice/roti and a fresh vegetable salad. You can opt for egg, meat or fish too. Dinner can be had around 6pm with a vegetable or chicken soup with bread sticks.

How Does It Help You Lose Weight?

When you follow Intermittent Fasting with a 4-4-16 hour gap, you give insulin time to leave your body. Without energy from food, the body turns to your fat cells and the free fatty acids stored inside them for energy resource.

How to Break the Fast?

Eating protein as the first part of your meal, followed by complex carbohydrates, and finally any simple carbs allows proper utilisation of insulin. Eating in this order will help you get back into your Fat-Burning Zone much more quickly enabling you to lose weight effectively. This means you can begin your breakfast with some soaked nuts to grab on to proteins. You can opt for dairy or eggs depending on your food preferences too. Then include complex carbohydrates with fresh fiber rich fruits or vegetables followed by breakfast cereals that tend to be loaded with simple carbohydrates.

For optimal benefit, combine Intermittent Fasting with good quality sleep, proper stress management and moderate exercise routine.

Have you tried Intermittent Fasting before? A word of caution, please consult your doctor, nutritionist or dietician before attempting it. If you found this article helpful, let us know in the comments below!

Why You Should Avoid Eating A Heavy Dinner

Avoid eating a heavy dinner “I am not losing any weight in spite of following a healthy routine,” said one of my Players. “What did you eat for dinner yesterday?”  I asked. He replied saying, “2 Rotis, 1 bowl of Rice, Dal, Subzi, 1 bowl of salad (as you have told) and 2 small gulab jamun,” I was quick in pointing out that the answer to his weight loss issue was his heavy dinner.

Why Should You Avoid A Heavy Dinner?

Our body works on a simple principle of demand and supply. Whenever we are more active, we need more energy. Hence, we need to eat more – which means having a heavy breakfast, a good lunch and mid meal snacks, help you stay active.

Whereas, when we aren’t quite active, we require less energy. From the time we begin our day, till night, our activity levels lower gradually (unless you work in night shifts). We really don’t require much energy when we’re going to relax post dinner and ultimately sleep. Which means, we do not need to eat as much because we won’t be burning that food for energy. If you consume more food than your body needs at night, it’s a simple recipe for weight gain!

Having a lighter dinner aids digestion and helps you better utilise the nutrients. It is advisable to have a 2 hour gap before hitting the sack. This is one way to avoid that unnecessary fat and weight gain! In order to do this, you need a plan. If you’re not in a habit of having frequent meals, and you avoid an evening snack, you’ll tend to eat more at dinner. Also, understand the psychological effect when you haven’t eaten anything post lunch, barring that cup of tea! You’ll end up feasting because your brain is telling you that you are hungry.

Some Benefits Of Eating A Light Dinner

  1. Aids in digestion and induces good sleep
  2. You will be able to get up fresh the next morning
  3. Helps in faster gut clearing
  4. Helps reducing fat & weight
  5. Reduces risk of lifestyle diseases like Type II Diabetes, Hypertension, High cholesterol, etc.
  6. Helps in reducing PCOD & Hypothyroidism
  7. Improves metabolism

The ideal time for dinner is near sunset 6.30- 7 pm. If you can’t manage it, then simply split your dinner between 2-3 small meals. Have an evening meal between 5-7 pm.  Ideally, at the time you feel hungry post Lunch. Eat Roti,Rice, Bhakri, or whole wheat bread etc. which is carbohydrate based for the first meal. Keep the lighter part for the next one i.e. 8-10 pm. Try to keep dinner low in carbs and more in proteins & fibers as this will prevent excess calories, give you proteins for muscle building throughout the night, and enough fiber will help in gut clearing.

You can try –

Proteins: Eggs, Chicken, Paneer, Dal, Sprouts, Usal, Curd, Yogurt, Soya, or Tofu mixed with
Fiber: Soups, salads, stir fried veggies, raita, or raw veggies, etc.

It can be as simple as curd rice, Khichdi- Kadhi, etc. But, watch the carbohydrate quantity. Avoid having fruits at this time as they contain fructose which is a simple sugar. If you feel hungry again at night, drink a glass of milk with turmeric powder or a bowl of soup/salads or a few nuts.
