To ensure that, and to make your quarantine time more productive, we’re sharing a sweet recipe for a delicious anjeer wrap that will warm your heart and keep you healthy!

What You Will Need

  • Anjeer (Figs) – 10 pieces
  • Almonds – 5-6 (roasted and crushed)
  • Walnuts – 5-6 (roasted and crushed)
  • Raisins – 10 pieces
  • Jaggery Powder – ⅓ Cup
  • Dried grated coconut – ¼ Cup
  • Cardamom powder – for taste

How to Prepare

  1. In a pan, dry roast the almonds and walnuts. Once done, keep them aside by roughly crushing them.
  2. In the same pan, put jaggery powder and keep stirring by pouring ½ cup water into it.
  3. Now put cardamom powder along with dry fruits and let it caramelize.
  4. Turn the flame off and let it cool a bit.
  5. Take the Anjeer and fill each with half teaspoon of stuffing material prepared and wrap it like a taco.
  6. Sprinkle some grated coconut on the open front of wrap and enjoy.

Health Benefits of the Anjeer Wrap

  • Figs are a good source of dietary fibre. They are ideal for weight watchers as a high fibre diet gets slowly digested, cutting off hunger pangs.
  • Being rich in potassium, magnesium, calcium and other minerals, it can help manage and lower blood pressure.
  • Fig fruit and even dried figs are used as natural laxatives to treat constipation.
  • Dried Anjeer has a moderate glycemic index, which makes this a smart choice for people with diabetes as you will experience a rapid increase in your blood sugar.
  • It is found to improve bone health because of its good source of calcium which is the main element required for healthy bones.
  • It has been found that consuming them on a daily basis can lower triglycerides levels within the blood. High triglycerides may contribute to hardening of the arteries which increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and other related heart diseases.
  • Anjeer has so many health benefits but its leaves have also been used as medicine for a long time to treat diabetes, cholesterol, and many skin conditions such as vitiligo/eczema/psoriasis.

Healthy Eating Tips and Suggestions While in Lockdown

healthy eating tips

Although questions have been raised regarding the transmission of COVID-19, there is currently no evidence to suggest that it can be transmitted through food or water systems. Proper home food safety is advised, including promptly refrigerating foods, keeping raw and cooked foods separate and heating food to the appropriate internal temperature. Today I’ll be sharing the list of foods which you should include for good nutrition and health, boost immunity and some healthy eating tips which you should follow.

7 Healthy Eating Tips While in Isolation

  1. Include Green Vegetables: like spinach, kale, broccoli in the diet regularly. Spinach is packed with numerous nutrients & antioxidants which increases the body’s immunity to fight against infections.
  2. Don’t skip Vitamin B in Diet: as they contribute in recognizing a pathogen first and act as a security measure for our immune system. Include fortified cereals, mushrooms, fortified dairy products, legume, nuts, and seeds to boost the immune system.
  3. Boost immunity with Vitamin C: Include fruits like oranges, lemons, kiwis, avocadoes, tomatoes, berries etc. Vitamin C helps to protect our body cells from oxidative stress which is the main cause of the production of free radicals and inflammation in our body.
  4. Eat Healthy Snacks and Avoid Junk: You may spend all the time at home which makes your reach for comfort food easier. Avoid chips, biscuits, namkeen cookies, etc. and replace them with healthy snacks like roasted chana, makhana, air popcorn, nuts, sprouts and berries.
  5. Include Vitamin D-Rich foods: The more you stay inside, the more your chances of Sun exposure will be limited. You can sit at your balcony or near a window where you can get good sunshine and enjoy a good time with family. Also include Vitamin D rich sources in your diet like fortified dairy-free milk, tofu, orange juice, mushrooms, etc.
  6. Add Ginger & Garlic: to your food to strengthen your immune system and to enhance flavour. These foods have medicinal properties to fight viruses which mainly cause common cold and flu.
  7. Include Good Protein in Dinner: such as legumes, lentils, chickpeas which contain vitamin B, iron, zinc, magnesium to kill pathogens. These Protein-rich foods also repair body tissue, fight viral and bacterial infections. They also maintain the integrity of the skin and mucous membranes.

7 Valuable Tips While Purchasing Food During Lockdown

  1. Go Easy on Frozen Foods: As we all know most of the frozen food items are high in sodium, fat, and calories. You can try them if fresh fruits and veggies are not available or too costly but remember that canned and frozen fruits and vegetables provide the same nutrients as fresh but don’t forget to drain and rinse them before use.
  2. Minimize Your Purchases for Tempting Foods: such as chips, sodas, cookies, and ice cream which can affect your immunity. They are high in empty calories and run up your grocery bill as well. Shop wisely and give priority to nutritive foods in place of junk foods.
  3. Keep Costs Down: while shopping online or at the store. Go for low-cost alternatives. Instead of buying everything ready-made, try to make some food items like hummus, salsa dip, purees, etc. at home. Don’t overstock food items. Check the labels for expiry date while shopping or after receiving through courier.
  4. Use a Disinfecting Wipe: while purchasing grocery from the store. Wipe your hands and grocery cart handle then put the wipe in a closed dustbin. After shopping don’t forget to wash your hands or use a sanitizer.
  5. Use Contactless Payment: For making payment through card or in case of online payment, you can use your contactless card. If you are making payment by using a normal card where you have used a keypad, tapped the buttons and screen with your finger, then use a hand sanitizer after completing the payment transaction.
  6. Eat Fresh As Much As Possible: Try to eat freshly cooked food, avoid storing food in the refrigerator and avoid wastage of food. Always cook food in limited quantities as per your need so there aren’t any leftovers which you have to store and eat forcibly the next day. Don’t compromise immunity and gut health in this tough time due to stale food.
  7. Eat Out Safely: If you are ordering cooked meals or you want to have take-out meals, take the food home right away and eat it while it is hot. Avoid storing leftovers. Order in required quantity only. If you want to store leftovers safely, wrap tightly and refrigerate and make sure that you reheat leftovers thoroughly before eating.
  8. Reconnect with Family During Meals: Try to eat maximum meals together at the table without television so that you can pay attention to each other and do not overeat. After the meal, you can engage in some fun indoor activity. It’s also a good time to try healthy recipes from Healthy Reads or GOQii Play – both within the GOQii App.

We hope this article helps you make the right choices. Do leave your thoughts below. For more healthy eating tips, tune in to experts on GOQii Play.

10 Ways to Turn Quarantine Time into Quality Time

quarantine

It has been over a week of working from home, social distancing and self-isolation from the outer world! Is it getting boring for you? With another 21 days of lockdown in full effect, life might only get monotonous. Let’s break that routine. Let’s utilize this time to do something more fun, productive and refreshing!

Focusing on the positive, this lockdown might actually be a blessing in disguise for those who have been too busy with work to do anything else. With all the time you save by not traveling or not being able to invest in social gatherings, you can pursue a hobby you’ve always wanted to or do something fun!

10 Fun Things to do During Lockdown

  1. Read a Book: Are you an avid reader who would finish a novel over weekends? If busy work hours and long travel hours stopped you from doing that, now is your time to shine! Get cozy in a corner, sip some nice green tea and immerse yourself in a book you’ve wanted to read. If you want to begin reading, try Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain or Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert.
  2. Rearrange the Wardrobe: This is every mom’s dream come true! Clean the shelves, rearrange clothes and once this lockdown is over, you can even donate the ones you don’t need. Organize your cupboard now that you have the time.
  3. Workout at Home: With the work from home mandate, closed gyms and lockdown, we’re spending more time sitting than being active. Now is the best time for home workouts. If you’re not motivated to workout, then you can join the 30 Day Quarantine Burn Challenge on GOQii and earn some exciting rewards while getting fit! All you need to do is tune in to workout videos on GOQii Play for 30 days. There’s more info in the GOQii App.
  4. Learn a New Hobby: Each one of us has always wanted to learn something or the other which could be painting, dancing, boxing, playing an instrument, cooking or may be as small as a headstand. You have all the time to explore these wonderful creative activities now! Utilise this bonus time to enhance your creativity skills.
  5. Grow Some Greens: Gardening is not only environment friendly but also a great stress buster. Go on and grow some organic vegetables to relish the nutrition at its best. If you want to begin growing your own microgreens, join Coach Arooshi Garg on GOQii Play as she has classes which are specific to growing microgreens!
  6. Sanitize Your Home: It is not only the hands that need sanitizing but everything that you touch as well. Wear your gloves and reach on to every corner of the house that you usually miss on due to lack of time. You can use a dettol spray to kill the germs around.
  7. Watch your Favourite Series: It’s time to catch up on the list of shows/movies you always wanted to watch. We do not suggest binge watching and eating as that can harm your health but planning your tasks everyday and having the entertainment slot for 30 minutes can be manageable.
  8. Plan Virtual Meets: Family and friends are always important. Social distancing needs to be followed strictly but we still can connect with our people over the phone, video calls, skype, etc. Make the most of the technology we have.
  9. Quality Time with Your Family: The busy routine of office and work at times keeps us away from family chit chats. Now you can sit together, talk to each other and recollect old memories. You have more time to spend with your spouse, eat food with your kids and play in the house with your siblings. If you have a pet, you can feed, groom and bathe him/her! This would boost your inner happiness for sure.
  10. Mediate: Stress levels are definitely high with the fear of increasing cases in our country. Be patient and calm. Indulge in some nice deep breathing sessions before sleep or practice Pranayama. It will help you stay positive and take decisions responsibly during emergencies. Join meditation and yoga sessions on GOQii Play for a better experience!

These are just a few ways in which you can utilize and make the most of this 21 day lockdown! Do you have some other activities planned? How are you spending your days? Let us know in the comments below!
