GOQii Sanjeevani : Our Village Experience

GOQii Team elated after the successful completion of giving out 50 bands in Waghadi (1)

It was a big day for all of us at GOQii as the company was kick-starting its new project GOQiiSanjeevani in the village of Waghadi in Palghar district on April 7th-World Health day. 10 of us expert coaches along with our two in-house doctors and 5 tech team personnel and other senior members from GOQii including our CEO Vishal Gondal travelled on the morning of April 7th to Waghadi for the launch. We were going there with a purpose to consult the villagers and guide and educate them on their health issues.

For the last 3 years that most of us have been here at GOQii, we have been dealing with urbanites who have a hectic, stressful and majorly sedentary lifestyle. GOQiiSanjeevani gave us a fresh new opportunity to Coach the villagers who have totally different concerns when it comes to health.

50 villagers with smartphones were shortlisted. They were given the band and also asked to install the app in their phones. Once that was done they were sent to the expert coaches for an interaction. Initially, the villagers were a little apprehensive to share information but when we explained to them how the band, the app along with the coaching is going to help and prevent them from falling ill they got interested.

We found that the villagers are active in their own ways as they walk quite a distance due to lack of frequent public transportation.Women here take care of farming while men are involved in different occupations like teaching, driving etc.  However, on talking to them we realized that they do not have major health issues as of now but are almost on the brink of developing disorders like diabetes, thyroid, acidity, UTI due to poor diet habits and hygiene etc. It was hard to believe that many are indulging in regularly eating processed food and junk foods like Chinese, VadaPav (Indianised burger), Samosa etc.

Issues Seen in them:

  • Acidity due to skipping Breakfast and large meal gaps through the day
  • Lack of Fibre in terms of Veggies & Fruits in regular daily diet
  • Joint Pain and Anemia in Women
  • Sleep Issues

As for now, GOQii Expert Coaches have majorly started working on

  • Regular meals
  • Inclusion of fruits and vegetables in their daily food
  • Have Breakfast
  • Add Iron & Calcium food sources for women

Once we finished interacting with the 50 villagers there was a bit of an apprehension from our side. Most of us were not sure if the villagers would keep in touch and interact with us

But, we are pleasantly surprised with theresponse we are getting from the villagers. On a dailybasis, they are informing us how much they are eating and what they are eating, if they’re sleeping well etc. They are following our instructions and that is overwhelming for us.

Our overall experience was enriching. It was a new learning on how to communicate with the villagers.

Lifestyle Change: Key to Good Health

GOQiiEcosystem

If there is any solution that has ever worked with any of my patients or clients over the last 10 years, it’s a lifestyle change. Be it cancer, weight loss, or just feeling better about one’s self, a lifestyle change has always provided the most effective and sustainable result.

Restrictive diets have never worked, in fact, they lead to collateral damage like depression, frustration, yo-yo and a feeling of deprivation. If you are eating an ice-cream or chocolate, eat it with love, enjoy it, or don’t eat it at all. GOQii’s coaches will coach you to do just that. They will coach you to eat mindfully, they will help you set up goals, encourage great habits and break down the bad ones.People have started measuring their worth with the wrong scale. The weighing scale dictates to people for beautiful or healthy they are or should be, and that’s so wrong.

The GOQii dream is to change the world. There are millions of people out there, struggling with their health and lifestyle. Most are lost and have no clue what’s right and what they should do to be healthy and fit. It doesn’t help that there is so much information and research out there that just confuses us even more.

The GOQii eco-system is designed out of passion and with an intention to change people lives, make a difference, add value and evoke change in people. It’s based on simplicity and believes that motivation is the energy for action. We can do anything when we are motivated. GOQii ties in Karma, ‘giving back to our communities, it’s such a self-fulfilling feeling when you know you can give back to society through an action that is making you healthier. This ecosystem ties in all of this and more.

Our coaches come from diverse backgrounds of nutrition, sports, fitness and other fields and go through a comprehensive training on behavior, nutrition, fitness and motivation. Our training material is designed by experts from Stanford University and Yale and delivered by professional trainers.

As an individual, there are only a handful of people I can professionally help in a day. Through GOQii, we can reach out to millions. Research today has proved that even if the unhealthiest person makes as little as one lifestyle change in a month, they are on the road to rejuvenation and better health.

Supporting victims affected during Assam and Bihar floods

assam-floods

Oxfam India, part of a global movement of dedicated people working hard to fight poverty and injustice, has been relentlessly working towards bringing relief to those affected by floods in Assam and Bihar.

The rain gods haven’t been too kind to the people of two Indian states namely Assam and Bihar. Continuous heavy showers through the month of July, 2016 practically washed away the homes of many village folks, communication and transportation disrupted in most of the districts at present. Life is just about coming back for many in the remote districts of these two states. Most of the daily wage earners are still facing livelihood problems. Schools are still doubling up as relief camps in many of the affected districts

Oxfam’s team has provided urgent assistance with food for survivors to cope. The priority initially was to make available hygiene kits, shelter and non-food items like tarpaulins, blankets, ground sheets, specially designed Oxfam bucket that prevents contamination of water, mugs, mosquito nets and water purification tablets among other relief items.

Communities used their local country boats to move out of the villages. They were supported by community volunteers and Panchayat. State Disaster Response Force, Army and National Disaster Response Force were conducting rescue operations.

The Oxfam project called WaSH aims to reach 10,000 number of households or 60,000 number of persons with emergency shelter & Emergency food security interventions in worst affected districts of Assam and Bihar. Oxfam has already reached out to 2000 flood affected families.

Oxfam India is also the Karma partner of GOQii, the Health and Lifestyle Company. Your support can make sure more families receive lifesaving support. To know more about the cause https://www.oxfamindia.org/Assam-Floods-2016.
