‘It is not about losing weight but, it is how you manage it’

Shobha Kunju                                                                                             Shobha Kunju

We are celebrating Women’s month and also women’s health. Here is another inspiring story of a woman who with her sheer grit and determination has been able to reverse her illnesses and get on a health path never to turn back.

It is said that it’s never too late to start if you have the right intent and the determination to do it. Shobha Kunju, 58, a mother of two grown-up children is a fine example of the above statement.

Shobha underwent several health issues between 2010 and 2015. She was first diagnosed with thyroid then she had a hysterectomy, and finally diagnosed with diabetes and put on a very high dosage of medications for both thyroid and diabetes. Apart from illnesses, she was also battling weight issues being on the heavier side. No amount of regular walks and exercises helped but, she was active. A ray of hope knocked on her door when her son introduced her to GOQii in 2015. Her eating and exercise habits bettered and she started targeting her step counts. On an average, she started clocking 10000-13000 steps daily. On weekends she goes for long walks -10 km. with better eating habits, exercise and sleeping better helped her in resolving her weight issues. Her weight reduced from 86 kgs 2 years ago to the present 78 kgs, in addition, she has also witnessed drastic inch loss around her waist. Shobha’s determination, self-motivation and discipline have helped her immensely to reverse her ailments and reduce medications. She is free from all medical issues thanks to her active lifestyle. She finds the idea of exercising on a Sunday morning together with other like-minded and motivated individuals very interesting and fun. Currently, she follows a regime of regular 5km walk in the morning with alternate day’s strength training and HIIT workout. Her message to one and all is: “Be disciplined and self-motivated to achieve your health goals”.

10 health and diet tips for Women

eating-healthy-and-exercising

March 8th is considered International woman’s day but at GOQii we dedicate this whole month to focus on Women’s health. This month, I want you to sit back and relax and take some time out to focus on your health. I have carved out some easy-to-follow tips that will help you keep up with your health and fitness along with your diet habits.

Here are some of the health and diet tips every woman must follow to remain healthy and fit

  1. Do not cut out any food groups from your diet

If you are dieting, do not think of cutting down on any food groups, be it carbohydrate or fat. Include lean proteins, calcium and other nutritional foods that will help your body function better. All you need to do is to ensure portion control and not go overboard, especially with unhealthy foods. Moderation is the key to a healthy you!

  1. Load up on lots of water

Water is the one solution to all your health problems; it helps flush out the hazardous toxins produced in the body due to poor eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, et al. Drink lots of water or just add some lemon and honey to make it healthier. Not only will it help keep your body hydrated but also will leave your skin glowing.

  1. Kick-start your day with a healthy and heavy breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; no matter how busy or caught up you are, take out some time to indulge in a good and healthy breakfast full of proteins to keep you energized through the day.

  1. Do not obsess over dieting

One must not obsess over dieting. It is okay to accept your body as it is; what is important is to ensure eating healthy and keeping yourself physically fit. Focus on building your stamina and engage in exercises.

  1. Feed your skin with healthy and natural ingredients

It shouldn’t be only your overall health but also your skin that needs some attention. For once, toss your chemical-laden commercial skincare products and use natural kitchen ingredients instead. They will help you get a gleaming skin.

  1. Do not forget to engage in at least 30 minutes of exercise

It is not just your diet that will ensure a healthy body, but also some physical activity or exercise. It is not necessary to spend two hours at the gym, but just 30 minutes of your favourite outdoor sport, gaming, running, walking, et al can help you out.

  1. Get yourself checked every six months

In order to take care of others in the family, we neglect minute health problems we generally go through. Take some time out and get your body checked for any suspicious growth or anything that you think should be flagged before it gets too late. Go in for a comprehensive health check up once in a year.

  1. Do not stop yourself from indulging

Keeping yourself healthy does not mean you forget munching on your favourite foods. Indulge in these foods once in a while to make yourself and your tummy happy and going. Do make sure you don’t overeat only to ruin your diet.

  1. Stop stressing! Include bright coloured foods to up your mood and get going

Nowadays, stress has become synonymous with us humans and one cannot avoid considering the many pressures in personal and professional lives. Load up on de-stressing foods and include more bright coloured fruits and vegetables in your diet that will help liven up your mood instantly.

  1. Avoid smoking and alcohol

While occasional drinking is fine, making it a lifestyle habit is extremely dangerous. Not only do smoking and drinking cut short your lifespan, but also make you look a lot older and dull.

Follow these basic health and diet tips to lead a positive, fit and enduring life!

To enjoy a good and healthy life in the future, one must exercise

Kartik Aknur

If you are not a morning person, getting up for any reason-leave alone for a workout that too on a Sunday morning can be a terrible ordeal but, for Kartik Aknur from Bengaluru, it’s a refreshing change to wake up early and go for a group workout session.

Karthik Aknur credits GOQii for his change and him achieving his health and fitness goals. He has been exercising for the last 5 years but, to no avail. His weight never changed and he was not mindful of his eating habits. Having a personal coach who through her constant monitoring and guidance helped him bring about a discipline in his food habits and daily fitness activities. The results were there for all to see-Karthik lost 10 kgs in 6 months. His daily step count currently varies from 10000 to 12000 steps daily. The one aspect that comes out clearly is one cannot achieve their health goals if they are not disciplined and self-motivated. Karthik’s idea of going for a community workout session on a Sunday morning is to meet with other active and fit people. According to him, it’s a good way to learn new exercises, meet people from varied walks of life and break the monotonous exercise regime that he was following. His message to all is, “Nature has created this fantastic concept called LIFE. Respect your body, feed it only when it is required. Be cautious in your food intake with regular exercise”.

“Active Sunday helps connect with like-minded individuals”: Arun Golaya

Arun Golaya-Player

If you are seriously not inclined to fitness, you will never know the joy of waking up early on a Sunday morning and going for a long walk, run, cycling, trek or just group outdoor workout sessions. What for some is a lazy day to sit back and enjoy, for some, Sunday is the first day and they like to start their week by being super active?

Arun Golaya was introduced to GOQii by Cap Anurag Bisen whose team Arun joined two years ago for the 100 km trail walk. It is during this time that he got to know of the Active Sunday concept. He finds Active Sunday’s interesting as it gets him to meet with like-minded individuals and have a healthy gup-shup alongside exercising. Given that GOQii helps keep one conscious of their health and fitness, Arun, has now introduced his daughter to GOQii as well.
