Exercising is all about enjoying the glow of good health

Venky- player story

Sri Venkatesh Nuvvula aka Venky moved from Bengaluru where he had an active life in Hyderabad where he ended up spending more time in office and less on exercising or indulging in any kind of physical activities. The change of location was doing no good to him from a health perspective but wealth wise he was doing well at work and moving up the ladder. But, what is the use of earning when you cannot enjoy the fruits of your hard work and be in good health? Lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle also led Venky to have no control over his food habits. While, in Bengaluru, he used to skate regularly at the Skatepark but lack of it in Hyderabad along with bad food habits had made him obese. The effect of all this was that his friends had started noticing the change in him and pointed out to him regularly as to how unfit he was getting.

This prompted Venky to get back to his fitness routine and change himself for the better. He works out daily and indulges in cross fit training and skating at the newly built skatepark in Hyderabad. Apart from his daily routine, he makes sure he goes for Active Sunday’s group workout session. His Mantra for life is, ‘Just invest in yourself to become a better version of you every day’.

Why do women ignore their own health?

women's health matters

Today’s woman of India might be overly worried about the health of her child and the well-being of her family, but she barely finds time to take care of herself. Most women don’t even understand the importance of regular checkups or visiting a medical practitioner for lifestyle advice.

The recently released GOQii India fit report 2018 (Indiafit.org) indicates that men seem to be better at leading a healthier lifestyle than women. They have greater step counts and more water. They have fewer illnesses and digestive disorders than women. While women are conscious about being healthy, they more often than not, neglect their own. It is increasingly being seen that women are more prone to being anaemic due to iron deficiency.

However, all is not dark. There is light at the end of the tunnel. We are seeing some positive changes with several women now taking charge of their health or wanting to do it as soon as possible. They are getting conscious of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  When it comes to adapting to a healthy lifestyle, the first thing that women are concerned about is reducing their bulge. This is further confirmed in the India Fit report’18 which reveals that 78% Indian women consider weight management as one of the key focus areas whereas 61% focus on getting fit and active. According to the report, awareness about women health has become an important issue in the Indian society.

GOQii as a company is striving hard to get one and all to change their current habits and imbibe newer habits to lead a healthy and fulfilling disease-free life in the future. On this International Woman’s Day, the company’s focus for the month of March is on Women’s health. As part of its ‘Active Sunday’ program, the company has lined up a series of talks by inspiring men and women on March 11th across Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurugram, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kolkata and Hyderabad. REGISTER NOW

To enjoy a good and healthy life in the future, one must exercise

Kartik Aknur

If you are not a morning person, getting up for any reason-leave alone for a workout that too on a Sunday morning can be a terrible ordeal but, for Kartik Aknur from Bengaluru, it’s a refreshing change to wake up early and go for a group workout session.

Karthik Aknur credits GOQii for his change and him achieving his health and fitness goals. He has been exercising for the last 5 years but, to no avail. His weight never changed and he was not mindful of his eating habits. Having a personal coach who through her constant monitoring and guidance helped him bring about a discipline in his food habits and daily fitness activities. The results were there for all to see-Karthik lost 10 kgs in 6 months. His daily step count currently varies from 10000 to 12000 steps daily. The one aspect that comes out clearly is one cannot achieve their health goals if they are not disciplined and self-motivated. Karthik’s idea of going for a community workout session on a Sunday morning is to meet with other active and fit people. According to him, it’s a good way to learn new exercises, meet people from varied walks of life and break the monotonous exercise regime that he was following. His message to all is, “Nature has created this fantastic concept called LIFE. Respect your body, feed it only when it is required. Be cautious in your food intake with regular exercise”.

Stay Healthy and Save Money

budget-health

Today’s Union Budget presented by Union Minister for Finance Arun Jaitley provides for new health protection scheme that will provide health cover up to Rs One lakh per family. And for senior citizens an additional top-up package up to Rs 30,000 will be provided. This is good but, how about staying healthy and reducing health costs once for all.

Lifestyle plays an important role in heart ailments but, perhaps many have not taken this to heart. Getting angioplasties and stents that cost thousands of rupees do not prolong life or prevent heart attacks in stable patients. Similarly, lowering blood sugar with drugs does not fully prevent the economic and human costs of diabetes (including heart attacks, strokes, amputations, impotence, kidney failure, and blindness), but lowering blood sugar with diet and lifestyle prevents all of these human and economic costs.

Bringing about lifestyle changes is easier said than done. Simple lifestyle changes like walking or cycling instead of driving, climbing stairs instead of taking an elevator, eating nutritious food or making dietary changes, exercising on a daily basis and incorporating some behavior modification technique can have a big impact on you and your pocket for the better. And rather than buy a pricey gym membership to get in shape, there are ways to work out on the cheap or choose a fitness tracker with a coach to guide you.

Her are 6 healthy habits that can keep you fit.

  • Portion Control and Mindful Eating: Watching how much you eat is one of the best ways to maintain your weight. Have smaller portions of food instead of filling your plate in one go and have 5 small meals a day that is healthy and nutritious. This will help you manage your weight, keep your cool, maintain your focus and avoid cravings.
  • Exercise Daily: The best way to start your day is with some good physical activity. We all know the importance of physical activity, but still only a less percentage of the population in the world follow the same. Exercise has been found to decrease your chances of depression, anxiety, and stress. It is also related to higher success in your career. If you don’t care about your body, every other aspect of your life will suffer. Take care of your body. It is the only place you live.
  • Have Enough Water: Staying well hydrated is one of our body’s basic needs. Water is needed to enable the body to keep eliminating the toxins generated, to produce digestive enzymes, maintain healthy skin, hair, organs and to help your body absorb essential vitamins, minerals and natural sugars. Water also regulates the body temperature, cooling one down by evaporating through the skin. Drinking at least 3 litres of water a day is a must.
  • Get A Healthy 7+ Hours of Sleep: Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout your life. Getting enough quality sleep at the right time can help protect your mental and physical health, quality of life, and safety. Sleep is just as important as eating and drinking water. Despite this, millions of people do not sleep enough and experience insane problems as a result. The way you feel while you’re awake depends partly on how you have slept or what kind of sleep you have had. During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain function and maintain your physical health.
  • Think Positive and have a sense of Gratitude: Being positive and thinking positive builds a healthier immune system and boosts overall health. Body believes what you think so think positive. Gratitude is good for our bodies, our minds, and our relationships. Showing gratitude also keeps one happy. Gratitude also blocks toxic and negative emotions and
  • Avoid Stress: The human body is designed to experience stress and react to it. Here are few things you can do to avoid stress. Namely meditate, deep breathing, be alert, relax, laugh out loud, listen to music, and chase your hobbies.

So let’s stay healthy and save money and rather use that money for things we love to do.
