From couch to running Marathons

rajneesh-Active sunday player

It has been rightly said that you will never achieve your goal if you never try. And, this is exactly what Rajneesh Sharma of Hyderabad has experienced. Rajneesh was lazy and how and had no control over his food habits. He weighed 98kgs and had no exercise routine. Weekends were all about being lazier. Rajneesh Kumar Sharma from Hyderabad felt there was an urgent need to reverse his life but, did not know where and how to start. Last year mid-October it began with him joining the GOQii platform. He was introduced to being disciplined in life, eating right, sleeping on time, exercising etc and the direct impact of all this was that his health got better. His weight dropped to 85 kgs and from being a lazy person sitting on the couch, he is today a very active person. He works out 5 days a week. From not being able to run even for 1 minute, Rajneesh now runs 7 km in 34 minutes. His weekends are also active. His life is reversed for the better. Now Rajneesh aspires to be fitter. He is more active now on weekends as well and Sunday mornings he looks forward to attending the Active Sunday. He says, it is not about just exercising and being active on a Sunday morning, it’s also about meet and talk to people from different lifestyles and listen to their stories and get motivated. Rajneesh has started participating in various Runs organized in Hyderabad. He is happy about the fact that people around him have noticed a lot of change in him.

His fitness message to all is “Don’t give up. Nothing comes easy in life, you have to sweat it out”.

“Be motivated, motivate others, learn and stay Fit”-Ruturaj

Ruturaj_Profile1

Fit is not a destination but, it should be a way of life.

My fitness journey started with training for my first 21 km Half Marathon. However, I was finding it difficult to change my routine because of the lifestyle I was leading. This is when I came across GOQii and as I started interacting with my personalized coach on the GOQii app. My coach motivated me and took the effort to push me to change my lifestyle, from controlling my diet, avoiding unhealthy food, eating right, eating on time, building a fitness routine, having pre &  post workout meals, etc. Thanks to GOQii, I lost 7 Kgs in 4 Months. I am learning to play Squash on Weekends. All these changes have helped me immensely and I thoroughly enjoyed my routine with the help of GOQii. For me working out on Sunday’s is an ode to my coach who has put in so much effort to make me fit. Another big reason for waking up on a Sunday morning early and going for group work out session is because I love meeting new people, sharing my knowledge and getting some knowledge back to stay fit. Active Sunday for me is all about enthusiasm to learn new exercises and new things about nutrition and fitness. His message to all is be motivated, motivate others, learn, and stay Fit.

7 Differences between Chia Seeds & Sabja Seeds

chia1

CHIA Seeds on the left side and SABJA seeds on the right side

Chia seeds are tiny power-packed seeds that have been documented to be around since 3500 bc in the diets of Aztecs and Mayans. They had identified that these super seeds had the ability to increase stamina and energy over long periods of time.

What is the difference between chia seed and sabja seeds (basil seeds)?

Chia seed is a native of Mexico and it does not have an Indian name. However, it has time and again been confused with basil seeds which are also known as Sabja in Hindi. Be it in appearance, origin or health benefits; Chia seeds are different from Sabja in numerous ways. Both chia seeds and sabja seeds originate from the mint family and hence the resemblance.

So how do you differentiate one from the other? Below are a few simple ways that can help you do so:

  1. Native

Chia seeds are native to central and southern Mexico while Sabja seeds are native to India and the Mediterranean region.

      2. Colour

As can be seen in the above image, the left side is CHIA SEEDS. They are usually a mixture of grey, black, white and sometimes even brown seeds. However, even the black ones are not pitch black in colour. Instead, a dull pattern or a mosaic is visible on them. On the right side is SABJA SEEDS, uniformly jet Black in colour.

         3. Appearance

Chia seeds are oval in shape and Sabja seeds are elliptical, like tiny grains of rice.

Chia seeds take time to absorb water. It has the unique ability to gel by absorbing over 10 times their weight. Sabja seeds swell up within seconds of being mixed with water. A translucent coat forms around the seed and it appears much larger in size when compared to a soaked chia seed.

         5. Taste of Soaked Seeds

Chirag

Being fit isn’t something you can achieve and check off your list. It’s a lifelong journey during which we can always work on improvements.

Although having been an avid cyclist for the past 10 years, a full-fledged fitness journey for Chirag started only 4 years ago when he became a fitness trainer. Prior to embarking on the fitness journey, he was a dancer and a choreographer. For Chirag, just working out on a Sunday morning or any one day of the week is not good enough. Hence, he works out daily. It takes patience, time and consistency to achieve a fitness goal. He cycles to work and also indulges in Aerobics, muscle strengthening along with a healthy diet. He is a regular at Active Sunday’s in Bengaluru as he loves the idea of working out in groups as it’s calm and peaceful.  His health message to all is, “Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live”.
