A Push Towards a Healthier Lifestyle | B. Nageswaran

nageswaran user journey

Health and fitness is quite an interesting space. Lately, there have been many people who have realized its importance. In some cases, individuals chase it with relentless determination, but sometimes, you need a little push before you take the first step. Such was the case with our player B. Nageswaran.

Retirement and Sedentary Lifestyle

Life after retirement is often dull. B. Nageswaran experienced this in 2016 as he began getting lethargic due to inactivity. Eating, sleeping and watching TV was his daily routine. By this time, he weighed around 89 kg. His meals were mostly home cooked but they lacked balance. He faced issues with high blood pressure as well.

He was certain by now, he had to make a change

Getting a Lifestyle Change

Nageswaran began searching for a fitness tracker. While web searching, he came across the story of our Founder and CEO Vishal Gondal. He immediately decided that GOQii was the way to go.

As soon as he joined GOQii, his lifestyle began to change. On the nutrition front, he began his day with water and soaked methi. After this, he consumes a concoction made of jeera, cinnamon and ginger in warm water.

Before a workout, he eats a banana, an apple, dates or some nuts. His post workout meal consists of homemade multigrain porridge or pearl millet (bajra) with curd. He follows this up with Idli, Dosa or Muesli for breakfast.

His Lunch consists of 1 cup of rice or 2 rotis ( flatbreads) with vegetables and dal or sambhar. For his evening snack, he either eats a fruit or consumes coconut water. He keeps his dinner very light and usually eats Idli, Dosa or Pancakes. Before bedtime, he drinks a glass of milk with turmeric.

He is completely off sugar and has zero cravings for it. Coupled with his medication, this has helped him keep high blood pressure at bay.

Being The Force

Nageswaran believes that the wisest decision of his life was getting involved with GOQii! Currently, he weighs 67 kg, having lost almost 22 kg and still looking to lose 2-3 kg more. Apart from losing weight, B. Nageswaran has also successfully completed a 10k run 6 months back, and has won an award for the same. He has begun training for a marathon.

Even though he was always interested in fitness, he needed someone who would push him and his GOQii Coach did exactly that! His coach followed up with him, guided him and suggested alternatives whenever required.

Nageswaran feels that GOQii Play is a unique endeavour that covers all major aspects of lifestyle and fitness. He is a regular on Marathon Expert Parwage Alam and Fitness Expert Tufail Qureshi’s classes. He also follows Dr. Paramjeet and Dr. Ashwin. He buys a lot of products during flash sales from the GOQii Health Store.

Seeing how adopting a healthier lifestyle has benefited him, B. Nageswaran got his family members to adopt the GOQii life, making them aware of fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

Here’s What B. Nageswaran’s Coach Had to Say About His Journey

“Nageswaran Sir has high BP, high cholesterol, LDL, thyroid and Vitamin D deficiency. Habits set for him to take soaked Methi seeds, boiled eggs or coconut oil were followed religiously by him. This included his healthy detox, soups, fruits, coconut water, etc.

His Exercise regime has been HIIT and running, alternatively. He has been well disciplined with his diet and exercise, promptly logging in his food, water and sleep.”

Patience is a Virtue Which Produces Excellence | Santosh Krishnan User Journey

Santosh Krishnan, a type 2 diabetic decided to rise above his excuses to lead by example. Santosh had an HBA1C reading of 8.4 which was alarming for a diabetic. In August 2017, Santosh with the help of a personal coach decided to turn his life around, setting a long-term goal of reversing diabetes which was holding him back from his desired quality of life. Initially his levels were (Fasting: 176, Post Prandial: 204, Weight: 77kgs ) and results didn’t come easy or instantly but with a great level of patience and determination tethered with a supervised diet and exercises, he brought down his levels to ( Fasting: 95, Post Prandial: 139, Weight: 69.8 kgs ). Today, he has an HBA1C reading of 6.8 which is completely normal. When asked, Santosh had much to say about his achievement and he was immensely proud of himself. Presenting his story in his own words.

“My journey with GOQii started in the month of April 2017. Being a follower of Luke Coutinho on Facebook, I wasn’t new to the world of health and fitness. One day I happened to come across a fitness band called GOQii on my friend’s wrist and immediately ordered one for myself.

Ever since I came on board the GOQii Platform, there has been no turning back. However, it was not a smooth journey. Later, I got to know that Luke was the Master Coach at GOQii. My journey with GOQii has had its ups and downs and I remember at one point I was corresponding directly with Vishal Gondal, the Founder, and CEO of GOQii because things didn’t go my way. I recall the time when I had changed three coaches in a span of four months, ultimately realizing that it was me who needed a makeover on my attitude, but as you will understand, it is easier to blame someone else than take it upon oneself.

My current coach has played a crucial rule in my health. I’m a type 2 diabetic and there was a time when my sugar readings were extremely high. Over the past 6 to 8 months we have made small changes to my lifestyle by introducing new elements like the consumption of ACV, actively keeping a track of all my required activities, which by the way has helped me immensely by giving me an understanding of where I stand and what I should do.

Regular workouts, optimum intake of water, cutting down on junk were the few steps I took combined with my coach’s presence and motivation which was irreplaceable. We know there’s a long way to go and my goal is to totally go off pills. It might be a farfetched goal but with self-belief and my coach’s constant presence, I definitely think it’s possible.”

What did his GOQii Coach have to say?

Santosh’s GOQii Coach was very enthusiastic to talk about her client and was very proud of his achievements. Here is what she had to say: “Santosh’s goal was to reverse diabetes and become healthy again. After my initial call with him, I understood that he’s focused and knows what he wants for himself. We began with basic exercises gradually including cardio and body exercises to the regime. We worked on a schedule per his convenience, I also advised him about the importance of frequent meals, pre-workout and post work out meals, water etc, which he followed religiously. It was a pleasure to see his data on the dashboard, which motivated me to concentrate more on his progress”.

“He seems to have taken charge of his health and his recent reports show that his sugar levels have come down drastically. He lost around three kgs and reduced a few inches on the waist as well. Santosh is super happy with his progress and so am I. It feels great to be a part of his amazing journey,” she adds.

Santosh has left no space for self-doubt in his endeavours and has been patient, constantly pushing his limits to further improve his glittering morale and a healthier lifestyle.

Epitome of Climax: The Big “O”

know your orgasmWhat is an Orgasm?

The climax of coitus, the mountaintop of making love and the ultimate, the almighty orgasm! Yes! This is what this article is about. You will agree that the pleasure of an orgasm is so heightened, it is difficult to know what is happening; but knowing what’s going on inside of us may heighten that.

Orgasm is the sudden discharge of accumulated sexual excitement resulting in rhythmic muscular contractions in the pelvic region of men and women. It is controlled by the involuntary or autonomic nervous system & associated with other  involuntary actions, including muscular spasms in multiple areas of the body, a general euphoric sensation and, frequently, body movements and vocalizations due to intense pleasure.

How Does it Happen?

I believe it is extremely essential to be attracted to your partner before indulging in any sexual activity. In fact, I would go ahead and say, indulge only if you love the person, else do not! More about this in another article.

If you are in this wonderful state, the continual stimulation of erogenous zones, such as the genitals, anus, nipples, or perineum by your partner might lead to an orgasm. Many believe that orgasms actually happen in the brain. Hence, one can reach an orgasm through masturbation as well. Physiologically, orgasms occur following two basic responses to continual stimulation:

  • Vasocongestion: The process whereby body tissues fill up with blood, swelling in size as a result
  • Myotonia: The process whereby muscles tense, including both voluntary flexing and involuntary contracting

If you thought having an orgasm is just a minute’s game, then you are in for a surprise. The body undergoes a long process to reach that state through the sexual response cycle, which is the sequence of physical and emotional changes that occur as a person becomes sexually aroused and participates in sexually stimulating activities, including intercourse and masturbation.

the epitome of climaxPhase 1: Excitement

As the name suggests, this is the stage when you blush and breath heavily in the hope of your coitus. In this stage:

  • Skin may become flushed
  • Muscle tension will increase
  • Heart rate quickens and breathing is accelerated
  • Nipples become hardened or erect
  • Vaginal lubrication begins
  • Blood flow to the genitals increases, resulting in swelling of the woman’s clitoris and labia minora (inner lips), and erection of the man’s penis
  • The woman’s breasts become fuller and the vaginal walls begin to swell
  • The man’s testicles swell, his scrotum tightens, and he begins secreting a lubricating liquid

Phase 2: Plateau

This is the phase when you are about to get an orgasm, but haven’t yet! The part of the brain that controls sensations – the primary somatosensory cortex – sees an increase in activity and the parts of the brain that control alertness and anxiety – the amygdala and hippocampus – dropped off.

Several other areas of the prefrontal cortex all show a decrease in activity. In other words, having an orgasm shuts the parts of your brain that make you worry.  No wonder all of mankind is crazy about having orgasams! It’s a great stress buster! It’s in the way our bodies are built!

The general characteristics in this stage are:

  • The changes of phase 1 are intensified
  • The vagina continues to swell from increased blood flow, and the vaginal walls turn a dark purple
  • The woman’s clitoris becomes highly sensitive (may even be painful to touch) and retracts under the clitoral hood to avoid direct stimulation from the penis
  • The man’s testicles are withdrawn up into the scrotum
  • Breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure continue to increase
  • Muscle spasms may begin in the feet, face, and hands
  • Muscle tension increases

Phase 3: Orgasm

The climax – It is the shortest of the phases and generally lasts only a few seconds. Both sexes feel the contractions in a variety of places from the head (that explains funny faces) to the feet (that explains clenched toes). You cannot control these contractions as they are involuntary and cannot be contained… kind of like when you sneeze. The loss of control can be messy, but it is ultimately why we enjoy our orgasms so much.

General characteristics of this phase include the following:

  • Involuntary muscle contractions begin
  • Blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing are at their highest rates, with a rapid intake of oxygen
  • Muscles in the feet spasm
  • There is a sudden, forceful release of sexual tension
  • In women, the muscles of the vagina contract. The uterus also undergoes rhythmic contractions
  • In men, rhythmic contractions of the muscles at the base of the penis results in the ejaculation of semen

Phase 4: Resolution

This is the feeling of “Oh my! What was that?” In this stage, the man enters a temporary recovery phase where further orgasms are not possible. This is known as the refractory period, and its length varies from person to person. It can last from a few minutes to a few days, and this period generally grows longer as a man ages. During this phase, the man’s penis and testicles return to their original size. The rate of breathing will be heavy and fast, and the pulse will be fast.

Orgasms are an inbuilt mechanism of human body (mammals). Our brain, emotions, and physiology are wired so that a person can experience it. In the second part of my article, I will elaborate on the benefits of orgasms, and why it is important to have a few now and then!

Kartik Aggarwal’s Journey to Being Healthy

User Story

Has fitness ever taken a backseat with you? Have you ever been active in the early days of schooling but as life and work caught up, your lifestyle became more sedentary? Did junk food and aerated beverages replace delicious, home-cooked meals? While it is comforting to know that you’re not the only one, somewhere it has to stop. At some point, you need to stop and question your lifestyle choices. You need to make a lifestyle change just like our player Kartik Aggarwal did.

Life Before GOQii

Kartik Aggarwal was always into sports. Since school, he was quite active. He has even represented his school in rollerskating. After graduation, work consumed most of Kartik’s time. Fitness became an alien entity to him. Health became secondary. He began skipping meals, his water intake was low and he treated himself to carbonated drinks more than often.

How Did GOQii Help?

Kartik Aggarwal had initially joined GOQii to study the application. He wanted to understand how the interface and the fitness tracker works. As the case with all new players, Kartik was asked to set a goal. His goal was to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

He began by regularizing his meal timings. Every morning, he drank a jug full of water. He completely cut off tea and coffee. If he craves for aerated drinks, he has buttermilk or lemonade. On the fitness front, he exercises 5-6 times a week. He works out either in the gym or takes a walk in a park nearby. Kartik has begun taking the stairs and avoids elevators or escalators.

Given his busy schedule, Kartik Aggarwal manages to take short walks every hour or so. He tunes in to Ronak Gajjar’s Meditation Class on GOQii Play as that’s the only show he can squeeze into his schedule.

GOQii Active Sunday Champion

After being active on the GOQii app, Kartik Aggarwal received an email from GOQii. The email was for an Active Sunday registration. He signed up and has never looked back. Since then, Kartik has been a one-man army who regularly champions the GOQii Active Sunday sessions in Ghaziabad.

What Did Kartik Aggarwal Have To Say About His GOQii Coach?

When asked about his coach, Kartik said that his GOQii Coach has been really helpful. She persistently follows up with him to complete his habits, despite the fact that he is not active on the app due to commitments from work. Although he doesn’t even get the time to check his phone, thanks to her dedication, he has been following his habits as much as possible.

Since joining GOQii, Kartik has lost about 7 kg. He says that his lifestyle has dramatically improved, especially his eating habits, thanks to inputs from his GOQii Coach!

Kartik will be live on GOQii Play soon. Tune in to his show to know more about his journey to a healthy and active lifestyle!
