Game of Health: A Dangling Carrot

game of health“In a world obsessed to train us how to say no creatively, I still wish each of us enjoy ability to say yes to each other more often.”

Sometimes I think what a guinea pig I am, thanks for all the continuous bombardment of different marketing experiments targeted to make me behave in predictable manner. Despite being aware of how we are led; we happily let others rule our mind. If geniuses are not many, same goes for fools, most of us are merely wired beings who get pulled in different directions by few who understand mind and behaviors better.

Am I being harsh? No only truthful. Let me put it more creatively.

According to Dr. Deepak Chopra we get 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day, approximately 50 thoughts in a minute. And it is also said that NOW the present moment lasts for only 3 seconds. The suggestion “Live in The Present” may not hold true for most of us. We may either be in the past or in the future most of the time. Midst of stream of thoughts focusing on one and cherry pick it, is certainly quite an achievement for us.

“Time is not the only currency we use to take a decision; we use lots of emotions.”

Behaviors are always intriguing. And one universal fact about behaviors is we are either buying into or selling out ideas, products, visions. But which ideas, products and visions we will buy may not depend on best available product but on products which align with our thoughts. A glimpse of survey I am conducting as part of my internship:

The need to feel connected with others is heightened during pandemic and technology and food are always around. Pandemic has changed behaviors overnight. Online services, digital platforms are safer and thankfully available choices. New habits are getting formed.

Simple solutions are easiest to follow. If as a nutritionist, I were to suggest you three simple diet behaviors to adopt, they will be:

  1. Choose fresh and natural foods.
  2. Cook your own meals
  3. Love healthy foods. Its easy.

Changing habits is forming new neural connections in our brain. If there are triggers for unhealthy behaviors, there can be triggers for healthy behaviors as well. Let me suggest a few

  • Whenever u crave any food, think of your gut with numerous minute bacteria feeding on the food you ate in previous meal. They have sufficient.
  • Seek help and who best can help you more than yourself. You may laugh but I have two WhatsApp in my phone. And I often send myself a message when I am seeking answers. Try it, you may get answer too.
  • Use drama. Be your own nutritionist, step into the role and speak from that role.

If these sounds weird, there are some very good digital platforms available for support. I personally had a great experience with GOQii in becoming more committed to my resolve of being healthier and active physically. It deeply integrates and aligns behaviors by providing good hand holding with coaching, medical support while monitoring steps, blood pressure, heart rate and sleep.

Our brain is more inclined to change if it receives reward for every action taken. GOQii successfully taps into the psyche and rewards clients with digital currency which can be used to buy novel and utilitarian products available on app at good price offers. I enjoyed impressive live sessions and chats with coaches who bring forth different and innovative therapies. One can also enjoy good walk for the mind while reading the GOQii blog and there’s much more. Want to feel the high of helping others while becoming healthy? Its possible, for every step taken one is awarded karma points which can be donated for charity causes offered on the app. I surely loved this feature in the GOQii App.

The satisfaction of earning money and using it to buy healthy products while ensuing healthy habits, is surely satiating. I purchased some very innovative products at a good price.  A wonderfully crafted health experience which works on your mind and make health a great fun game to play daily.

We are led to buy products which we may or may not need. However, a platform to guide our mind towards healthy behaviors, is certainly technology put at best use.

Eat healthy, maintain healthy weight, love yourself and say yes more often.

Lose Weight The Right Way – Neetu Choudhary’s Weight Loss Journey!

Neetu Choudhary

Do you struggle with losing weight? Are the odds always stacked against you and despite your best efforts, the number on the weighing scale doesn’t budge? Well, you might have a lot in common with our player Neetu Choudhary who faced similar challenges. But with the right guidance from her GOQii Coach, she was able to make a positive lifestyle change!

Before Joining GOQii

Neetu Choudhary always had a medium build. She dabbled with yoga and the gym to stay active and fit before marriage. However, post-marriage, due to the new home, work and the stress which came with the responsibilities of managing both, her fit and active lifestyle headed towards a downward spiral. She also had a miscarriage which further impacted her stress levels and led to weight gain. After a successful delivery, her weight had touched 82kg. She had reached a stage where she was ready to try anything to lose weight.

Neetu Choudhary Makes The Shift!

Neetu Choudhary was introduced to GOQii through a friend. Let’s read her story in her own words:

“1 year ago, my weight was more than 80kg. My BMI was hovering around the obese category. Because of a C section delivery and hormonal imbalance, my weight was increasing day by day. Despite working out and dieting, I was not able to reduce my weight. I worked out 3 hours a day at the gym and my diet was only liquid without chapati or rice and I often skipped meals.

I still remember the first call with my GOQii Coach where she told me that I am torturing my body and experimenting with it the wrong way – that’s why my metabolic rate is very low. I told her that I don’t eat anything and I’m still unable to lose weight. To this, she said that’s what the problem is! If we don’t eat right, it will affect weight. Those words hit home and from that day on, my life took a big u-turn.

The changes that my coach introduced included:

  • Reducing my workout time from 3 hours to 1 hour
  • Have 3 meals a day – breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Include yoga and meditation for better sleep and to reduce stress levels

Additionally, she also suggested that I don’t avoid anything but only restrict the quantity for the initial stage.

After following these changes, I began realizing that my energy levels increased and I don’t feel tired all the time. My anger levels reduced. My GOQii Coach Unnati helped me a lot during my journey and kept motivating me. She also helped me stop a few bad habits such as:

  • Reducing my milk tea from 5 cups to just 1
  • Doing away with processed and instant food. Now, I don’t even have biscuits in my kitchen

Staying Fit During Lockdown

When the world went into lockdown, I was worried about how I’ll keep my routine up but my GOQii Coach motivated and guided me to utilize this time in an effective manner. I switched to home workouts which include stair workouts, skipping, HIIT and running. I lost nearly 8kg in the lockdown itself.

I now believe that even without a gym or skipping meals, we can still reduce weight. All you need is determination and a positive attitude. My coach said – STOP MAKING EXCUSES  and this has been my motto ever since in my personal as well as professional life!”

What Does Neetu’s Coach Have To Say About Her?

Coach Unnati says that, “Neetu was very determined towards her health goals, which was to lose weight, lose inches (especially belly fat). Her health concern was PCOD because of which she had gained weight and was finding it too difficult to lose.

After learning about her daily routine, we decided to reduce the workout from 3 hours to 1 hour & in addition introduced a half an hour post dinner light walk. Workout would include variations of HIIT, Stair Climbing, Skipping Rope, Strength Training and of course a small session of Pranayama & Meditation. For food habits, we decided not to skip or eat less for any meals instead, follow intermittent fasting starting with 12/12 hours and at present following 16/8 hours very smoothly. During the eating window, we made sure her diet was rich in fiber, protein, good fats & moderate amount of carbs. Water intake was also improved by incorporating detox water.

Changes Observed:

  • Weight loss – 12 Kgs (from 82 Kgs to 70 Kgs)
  • Inch Loss – 4”
  • Belly Fat – 6”
  • Arms – 2”
  • Improved on Sleep Quality,
  • Reduced Stress Levels
  • Good Energy levels throughout the day.

Neetu’s Sincerity, Determination, Dedication & Consistency helped her achieve her health goals. Seeing her so motivated, motivates me too!”

Well, does this story motivate you? Remember, it is never too late to make a change. With determination, motivation and the right habits, you can reach your health goals too! Manisha Mahajan From Nashik City Police Takes The Next Step To Good Health!

Manisha Mahajan

During this entire COVID-19 pandemic, one cannot deny the role that our frontline heroes – the police force have played by tirelessly working to ensure that lockdown rules were followed and providing assistance wherever required. While our unsung heroes do their best to protect us from the pandemic, who is protecting them? Good effort in the service of others rarely goes unrewarded. Let’s look at the story of one of our heroes, Manisha Mahajan from the Nashik Police Force.

Manisha Mahajan has been working with the Nashik Police Force since 2014. Currently, she has been assigned the task of handling the GOQii dashboard for the Nashik police Force. Her task includes monitoring whether the personnel who have been handed the trackers are syncing on a daily basis, sending out reminders if they are not doing it, flagging off if there is a temperature increase alert and contacting the relevant policeman to stay off duty and observe if he experiences any other COVID-19 symptoms. She also constantly motivates everyone around to record as many steps in a day as possible.

Changes After GOQii

While getting inducted into the Police Force, they were required to undergo a 9 month training period which involved a lot of walking, running and other physical activities. However, once she got a posting, all activities stopped due to working in shifts and frequent changes in schedule.

When the tracker was handed out to them by their Commissioner, Shri Vishwas Nangare Patil, at first she wasn’t too keen on using it. However, after a few days, she too got motivated looking at the others actively engaging with the coach and recording a huge number of steps.

Once on the platform, her GOQii Coach helped her with a proper schedule for workouts, meal timings and sleep. She now wakes up early and spends an hour walking, running, and doing bodyweight exercises. She does not skip breakfast, includes at least one fruit every day and has lemon-ginger-turmeric concoction upon waking up. She has also begun including more protein sources in her meals like fish, chicken and eggs. Her rice consumption has been significantly reduced as well.

She tries to walk as much as possible even during her shift and clocks in almost 35k steps on an average, daily. She also performs yoga and meditation a few times during the week. She says that it keeps her fresh and energetic throughout the day and her sleep quality has also improved as compared to before. Since the past 2 months, she has reduced 4kg in weight.

She says the data that she sees on the dashboard and the tracker are great motivators. It is not just her, but her colleagues as well who constantly try to keep increasing their daily step count.

What Does Manisha Mahajan Think About GOQii?

Manisha Mahajan says that GOQii has brought about a lot of positivity in her life. She feels good about herself. In fact, looking at her enthusiasm, even her mother has started taking interest in walking. She now wishes to gift her mother a tracker very soon!

We salute the efforts of Manisha Mahajan from the Nashik City Police Force for her dedication to serve the country as well as remain active!

How Did Police Officer Sharad Hembade Go From Healthy to Healthier?

Sharad Hembade

Being a part of the Police Force means that you need to be healthy and active at all times. Poor health or lack of activity can come in the way of duty otherwise. But, as an officer, if you’ve been active throughout your life, is there a way you can improve further? Let’s find out from the journey of Officer Sharad Hembade from the Nashik City Police.

Being an Active Force of the Police Force!

Sharad Hembade has served 18 years as an officer and has been stationed at Nashik for the past 12 years. He is happily married and has 2 kids. When he isn’t involved in his police duties, he treks – sometimes with a group and sometimes alone around Maharashtra. He has also participated in a number of marathons pan India as and when time permitted.

Apart from these activities, he also participates in cycling events. One such event was organized by the Nashik Cyclists Foundation which spanned from Nashik to Pandharpur and back – a distance of 365 to 375km which he undertook in the year 2018. They completed 185 km on the first day and 80 km on the second. The entire distance was covered in 2 days and 2 hours. Though it was tiring, he said the event was worth remembering.

From Healthy to Healthier!

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the pressure on the police force has increased exponentially. To ensure the safety of our frontline heroes, a GOQii Tracker was handed over to the entire Nashik City Police Force by their commissioner, Shri. Vishwas Nangare Patil two months back. All the mechanisms of the tracker including temperature monitoring and how to use the app was explained to them.

Though Officer Sharad Hembade was already quite active, GOQii helped bring in a newfound enthusiasm in him by motivating him to complete his daily step count target and check all the habits set by his GOQii Coach. Compared to before, he says that his entire routine is now structured when compared to his lifestyle before.

The structure and changes to his routine introduced by his GOQii Coach were:

  • Starting his day with a walk-run combo from 6 AM to around 8:30 AM. He also includes some bodyweight exercises and a few minutes of yoga and meditation towards the end.
  • On the diet front, he was asked to introduce more protein sources to his meals
  • Reducing water intake as he used to consume 6-7 liters a day which his coach explained were harmly as he would be losing a lot of essential minerals in the process.
  • Including more plant-based protein sources such as rajma, chana and various kinds of lentils for lunch and dinner.
  • Walking between shift hours instead of being seated.

Thanks to these minor changes, he was able to lose 4kg in 2 months. He has also begun purchasing healthy products from the GOQii Health Store such as protein snacks and bars.

What Does Officer Sharad Hembade Think About His Changes?

He says his job involves a lot of stress for obvious reasons and hence, it is extremely important to have a positive mindset and handle it on a daily basis. Physical activity helps in developing the body as well as the mind – willpower improves and it also helps ease the stress. This has been his belief throughout his life. He says that right now, GOQii is like their caretaker and health inspector – constantly monitoring and reminding them to take care of their health!

We salute the efforts of Officer Sharad Hembade and his dedication to serve the country as well as remain fit and active!

Gear up as we’re going to share more insights on the life and journey towards an active lifestyle of our Police Force in the coming weeks! For more successful user stories, check out Healthy Reads within the GOQii App.
