“Get ready for the big day” – fitness for Brides & Grooms

wedding-fitness

It is that time of your life when you want to look the best and fit. It’s your big day when you are going to tie the knot with your groom or bride and get hitched for life. So if you’re on your way to get married, now is a good time to take your health and appearance more seriously.

*Diet: If you’re over weight or underweight consult a dietician to help you with a healthy balanced diet. Resist the temptation to crash diet. Instead of skipping meals, focus on what you eat: keep a food diary for two weeks and you will soon recognize your weak points. Eat healthy for a brighter fresher look, cut down on junk food and sugar, but go gaga over salad, sprouts, green leafy vegetable and of course water.

*Get enough protein – Your body uses 20-30% more energy to digest protein foods than carbohydrates. Make sure you have some protein rich food such as like fish, chicken, turkey, eggs, milk & milk products, nuts like almonds & walnuts, tofu, soybean or pulses during each meal.

*Make time for fitness – There’s no way around it, no quick fix or magic pill. Exercise is the magic pill! Not only does it help you shed pounds, it also reduces stress, rejuvenates your mood and helps you sleep. If you are just starting out after a long break from exercise, commit to 10 minutes a day and build up from there. Start any kind of cardiovascular exercise like jogging, walking, swimming, cycling or aerobics.

Below are few home remedies that will help maintain your Skin and Hair.

*Cleansing (Papaya):  Cut a ripe papaya with skin, in the size of a bar of soap. Store it in your fridge. Everyday rub the pulp over your face and neck in a circular motion like you would with soap, keeping the skin side towards your palm. Rinse a bit later, this hydrates the skin well. Do this twice a day.

*Moisturizing (Aloe Vera): Aloe Vera is a gift for the skin. Massaging extracts of Aloe Vera all over the skin, provides essential nutrients, leaving your skin smooth and glowing.

*Hot oil hair massage: Apply olive oil and almond oil because they are healthy in nature and will enrich your hair with fatty acids and vitamins.

*Home made hair mask: Take 1 banana and mash it. Add 3 to 4 drops of almond oil and mix it well and massage it into the hair. Keep it for 30 minutes and wash with a mild shampoo.

Use these tips on regular basis to make your hair and skin healthy and soft.

*Sleep well – Get eight hours of sleep and do not take unnecessary stress. Research shows that stress and lack of sleep contribute to weight gain. Simply being conscious of the stress, trigger in your life and having a plan of how to deal with them when they come up will make a world of difference. You can’t always control, what comes your way, but you can control how you react to it.

So what are you waiting for get ready to be fit and look beautiful before the D Day!

Why excessive sweating is not good-Part 2

excessive-sweatingIn my previous blog I talked about how sweating is good and the health benefits of Sweating. But, having said that let me also caution you that excessive sweating is also not very good

Before I get to why it is not good, let us first try and understand what is excessive sweating or in other words ‘Hyperhidrosis’

What Is Excessive Sweating?

If you sweat more than other people when it’s hot or you’re exerting yourself, that’s not cause for concern. Sweating is a normal reaction when your body is working hard and needs to cool itself down.

Excessive sweating is usually defined as sweating an amount out of proportion with the temperature of a room or your activity level. Besides disrupting normal daily activities, excessive sweating can cause social anxiety or embarrassment.

Sweating that exceeds beyond the needs of the body—medically termed as hyperhidrosis—is fairly common but not a good sign. It affects 1%–3% of the population. Hyperhidrosis may be generalized but, most often it involves the palms, underarms, feet, and groin; it can take a social toll, making handshaking unpleasant and some handwork impossible.

Causes:

Sweating helps the human bodies stay cool. In most cases, it is perfectly natural. People sweat more in warm temperatures, when they exercise, or in response to situations that make them nervous, angry, embarrassed, or afraid.

Excessive sweating occurs without such triggers. Persons with hyperhidrosis appear to have overactive sweat glands. The uncontrollable sweating can lead to significant discomfort, both physically and emotionally.

When excessive sweating affects the hands, feet, and armpits, it is called primary or focal hyperhidrosis. In most cases, no cause can be found. It sometimes is genetic and runs in families.

Excessive sweating also occurs as a result of another medical condition such as Diabetes, Endocarditis, fever of undetermined cause, heart attack, menopause, Hyperthyroidism, obesity and stress it is called secondary hyperhidrosis. The sweating may be all over the body or it may be in one area.

Excessive Sweating: Treatment Tips

Hyperhidrosis is a very real and embarrassing problem, but there are some effective ways to treat it. Before you hide under bulky sweaters or move to a chillier climate, you can try these proven techniques for combating excessive sweating.

The easiest way to tackle excessive sweating is with an antiperspirant, which most people already use on a daily basis. Antiperspirants contain aluminium salts. When you roll them onto your skin, antiperspirants form a plug that blocks perspiration.

Many antiperspirants are sold combined with a deodorant, which won’t stop you from sweating but will control the odour from your sweat.

Is Sweating good for you? – Part 1

sweating

Sweating at the gym or while exercising in the outdoors is fine. But, sweating in the office or during a date is not so cool. Having pit stains while at a special dinner or having sweating palms while shaking hands is very unpleasant.

Every human being sweats-just not for the same reasons though or in the same amounts.  Sweating, also known as perspiration is the production of fluids secreted by sweat glands in your skin. Perspiration is caused by multiple reasons like genetics, anxiety, high temperatures and also exertion from exercise.

Sweating is the body’s way of reducing its internal temperature to maintain a normal body temperature, responding to outside environment. To put it simply, it is an essential body process designed to help your body stay cool

One should go along with natures rule in summer or while doing a physical activity when it’s time to sweat. Ideally do not bear the heat by running the air conditioners thus compromising on the immune system and neglecting your health. But, some may wonder whether it is beneficial to encourage your body to sweat more for reasons beyond temperature control.

Every human being is born with anywhere between 2 to 4 million sweat glands. And the number of such glands you have will determine, in part, how much your sweat. While women generally have more sweat glands than men, men’s glands tend to be more active and produce more sweat.

An international newspaper had once published an article on Sweating and concluded that Sweating per se, provides no health benefits aside from preventing overheating. But, I believe that sweating does have health benefits. Here is a look at these benefits.

Sweat has many health and beauty related benefits, all for your good.

# Sweating can reduce your cholesterol and sodium levels thus improving cardiovascular health.

# Sweating helps the body regulate its temperature & cool down.

# Sweating helps the skin release toxins and heavy metals, such as mercury and lead.

# Sweat has some amount of antibiotics that destroys skin bacteria.

# Sweat unclogs skin pores thus improving your skin tone, clarity and texture. And also helps eliminate blackheads and acne.

# Exercise associated with sweat releases endorphins into the body, making you feel happier and less stressed.

Some international research has also indicated that people who exercise, and therefore sweat more have a lower risk of kidney stones.

Sweating is a natural and necessary mechanism occurring on its own with great health benefits. However, excessive sweating also called hyperhidrosis is not good. Just remember while normally sweat do not forget to stay hydrated to replenish what’s lost.

CAN FOODs HELP PREVENT PREMATURE GREYING OF HAIR??

grey-hair

“Grey hair” – I am sure is one of the most distressing night mares for all of us!

Greying of the hair is an ultimate and irreversible reality of life and is often associated with growing old. Black turns into white when our hair lacks the pigment called “melanin”. Melanin is produced by pigment cells of hair follicles which surrounds the root of each hair strand. With the increasing age of the person, there is gradual reduction in melanin pigment of the hairs and this is what causes greying of hair.

A number of medical conditions as well as lifestyle choices have been related to premature greying of hair. Some of them include Thyroid, Vitamin B12 deficiency, Vitiligo, Smoking, Stress, Faulty diet, Excessive use of electric dryers and hair irons. Of all the factors responsible, lack of proper diet and genetic factors are the major contributors.

Diet plays a very important role and if a person’s diet is faulty then he is likely to face premature greying of hair. Though one cannot prevent the natural cycle of whitening of hair, but one can always prevent their hair from premature greying by choosing right kind of foods.

Few hair-friendly foods which help delay whitening of hair include:

  • Curry leaves: Curry leaves are beneficial in not only preventing premature greying of hair but also in providing strength to hair roots. Apart from adding curry leaves to the diet, these leaves can also be boiled in coconut oil. This is a popular home remedy, an excellent hair tonic to stimulate hair growth and increase hair pigmentation.

  • Amla: Also known as Gooseberries, they are the best remedy for premature greying. Gooseberries are known to be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of grey hair. This is a valuable hair tonic for enriching hair growth and hair pigmentation.

  • Fresh Veggies: Simply incorporate green vegetables into your diet for two or three of your daily meals. They are naturally rich in Vitamins B6 and B12, which keep hair healthy.

  • Chocolate: Chocolate is naturally rich in copper, a nutrient which is vital for melanin production. Choose dark chocolate, which contains fewer calories than milk chocolate, and enjoy it in moderation.

  • Berries: Berries like strawberries, raspberries and cranberries have abundant amount of Vitamin C. They promote healthy hair as well as prevent premature greying.

  • Salmon: Salmon is a great food for fighting grey hair. Salmon is a natural source of selenium, which regulates hormone production that keeps your hair colourful.

  • Almonds: Get rid of grey hair and have a healthy flowing hair with almonds
Almonds are rich in both Vitamin E and copper. Try incorporating almonds into your meals and start loading up on hair-healthy nutrients.

  • Sunflower seeds: Sunflower seeds have high amount of mineral content which helps in producing and retaining the melanin content thus playing an important role in maintaining healthy hair.

Lastly, when you’re eating hair-friendly foods, ensure water intake is optimal because   nutrients need water to flow through your body. Thus, If you’re not well-hydrated, you won’t get the maximum benefits from all those special, grey hair colour-fighting foods!

So all these foods and information will help you prevent grey hair and will make you look much younger even when you grow old..
