GOQii Play Can Change Your Life – Here’s Proof!

Mayur JaluEarly in 2018, we had begun experimenting with live coaching. We had started with 5 coaches who would conduct sessions and share their expertise Live via Facebook. As interests in these sessions grew, so did we. Today, with over 30 coaches who hold interactive classes on topics ranging from health, nutrition and fitness to yoga and emotional wellness, our experiment has successfully blossomed into a colossal mammoth known as GOQii Play. In the course of a year, GOQii Play has helped numerous individuals make a positive lifestyle change via live classes through the GOQii app. We are about to introduce you to one such individual who made the most out of this platform.

Based in Baroda, Mayur Jalu is a 34-year-old working professional employed by Bajaj Allianz. In Oct 2018, he was introduced to GOQii, receiving it as a Diwali gift. With a 3-month subscription in his hand, Mayur wasted little time and began engaging with the GOQii app and tracker immediately. His health goals included weight loss, to stay fit and have an active mind. Since the beginning, Mayur was attracted to the GOQii Play feature and began following it religiously. He regularly watched the 8:30 PM show and sometimes, also tuned in to the 6:30 PM show. His favourite coaches being Apurva and Aliya. Mayur told us that he learned a lot from his coaches on GOQii Play about what he should and should not do in terms of exercise and nutrition. With all the information that he received, Mayur went on to change his lifestyle for the better.

Within 2 months, Mayur reduced from 76kg to 74.1kg.  He now exercises frequently and clocks 7-8k steps on a daily basis. He stopped drinking tea in the morning in order to reduce his sugar intake. Before, he used to consume a lot of oily, fried food which he has now replaced with fruits and salads. He eats a light dinner accompanied by buttermilk and increased his overall water intake. Mayur claims that GOQii Play helped him a lot and thanks to that, he can now spend more time with his son and still manage to sleep as early as 10 PM.

Mayur proved that if you’re determined, you can achieve your goal one way or another. Mayur’s message to everyone out there is, “If I can change, so can you!” and quite rightly so.

To follow Mayur’s amazing journey, join him live on GOQii Play as he shares his story on the 17th of February at 12 PM. Be there! #BeTheForce

This GOQii Player Made the Impossible, Possible!

Avinash-user

“If there is a will, there is a way”, GOQii player Avinash is a living example of this quote. This is the story of how the impossible was made possible with nothing but sheer determination to succeed.

Avinash led a normal life post-retirement. He starts his day at around 6 am in the morning, has his cup of tea and goes for a morning walk without fail. After his breakfast and lunch, Avinash takes a nap for around 2-3 hours, has dinner and goes to sleep. Things started getting difficult after Avinash was diagnosed with Type-2 Diabetes. His sugar levels were hovering around 160-175. Even though Avinash tried allopathy for a while, he wasn’t satisfied with the results and this forced him to consider other options. He decided to take a more holistic approach to his condition and considers it one of the best decisions of his life.

Avinash first came across GOQii through texts and email from a programme called Active Axis by Axis bank, which promoted health and fitness. He immediately liked what GOQii had to offer and joined the community. When we asked him about the changes that GOQii brought into his life, this is what he had to say:

“Already experimenting with Allopathy and Ayurveda, I was really disappointed with the results. I wasn’t really sure about GOQii in the beginning but today I’ve successfully reversed my diabetes and I’m no more a diabetic. The changes in my life were very basic but they made a drastic impact on my health and fitness. From my eating habits to the number of hours I slept, everything was closely monitored to bring out the best in me. The guidance and motivation provided by my coach is a big contributing factor to my achievement. I used to write a daily diary of physical activities, food intake and other activities, which I uploaded daily on the app. Based on the information, my coach guided and instructed me toward better fitness. I was determined to succeed and stuck to my goals with dedication. Due to this, I received a lot of appreciation from the coach regularly, which in fact was quite encouraging for me.

As far as food intake and nutrition was concerned, I increased the number of proteins, fruits, vegetables, salads and reduced the quantity of wheat and rice in my daily diet. The quantity of these items was decided in such a way that I should not consume more than 1000 to 1200 calories in a day. I started consuming dry fruits like almonds, walnuts and seeds like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and also started drinking Amla Juice every day in the morning. I detox my body regularly by drinking spinach, apple, mint and lemon juice twice or at least once a week. Spicy foods and junk are totally out of my diet and the results are marvellous.

My water intake has increased from 1 to 1.5 litres to 2 to 2.5 liters a day. I walk for two to two and a half hours twice, every day. I have been achieving my daily target of 10,000 steps a day and 70,000 steps a week consistently since I joined GOQii. On many occasions, I have exceeded 100,000 steps in a week as well. I have been monitoring this with the help of a tracker provided by GOQii. Yoga and Art of Living programs have also become a healthy part of my life.

Today, my sugar levels are back to normal and I’m very proud of what I have achieved, equally thankful to GOQii for helping me reach my goals.”

What did Coach Trisha have to say about her player Avinash?

“Since the time I started coaching Avinashji, I was sure that diabetes reversal with him was absolutely possible! He has always been extremely cooperative, irrespective of what the circumstances were.  He is a live example of how important it is to take care of yourself even while traveling. Even after reversing his diabetes, he has never gotten off plan! Kudos Avinashji!”

This is an excellent example of how you can turn your life around. If you feel like you are not at your best health, may this story encourage you to work towards fitness! It always seems impossible until it’s done.

Lifestyle diseases: An epidemic among young Indians

riseinlifestylediseases

You must have heard the term “Lifestyle Disease” before, but have you ever wondered what it is? As the name suggests, they’re diseases which are linked to your way of life. For example, if someone is leading a sedentary lifestyle, with minimal or no physical activity, that person is more susceptible to diseases like Diabetes, Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure etc. On the other hand, a physically active individual has lower chances of contracting these diseases. Unhealthy eating and lack of physical activity are the main reasons behind lifestyle diseases. Let’s take a look at the trend of Lifestyle Diseases in India as per the GOQii India Fit Report 2019.

Image: “Since last year, there has been a rise in the number of lifestyle diseases among people overall.” – India Fit Report 2019

According to the report, there has been a rise in Lifestyle Diseases since last year among individuals who are below the age of 45. This is an alarming trend as it clearly shows the rise of an unhealthy lifestyle among the younger generation. Let’s take a look at the major lifestyle diseases affecting India, namely High Blood pressure, Diabetes, Cholesterol and Thyroid.

Cholesterol
Since last year, the percentage of cholesterol among Indians has increased from 10.1% to 14.1% as per the Report. It also says that 68.9% of the affected individuals take no medication to tackle the condition but aim to overcome cholesterol by making changes to their lifestyle. Since cholesterol is a condition that can be cured by lifestyle changes, it is something the rest should aim to achieve. Currently, Kolkata (18.2%), Delhi (17.3%) and Bengaluru (15.3%) are the major cities with the highest number of people suffering from Cholesterol.

High Blood Pressure (HBP)
High Blood Pressure is another serious condition which is often overlooked by Indians. 34% of the population has HBP running in their families. This data alone shows how serious this condition is in India. HBP has increased from 9% to 12% over the last year and about 44% of the affected individuals look to tackle the condition without the help of medication. Kolkata (21.9%), Mumbai (13.7%) and Delhi (13.6%) are the cities that have high concerns of HBP as per the Report.

Diabetes
We are all familiar with Diabetes as it is one of the most common lifestyle diseases out there. Chances are that at least one individual in your family is suffering from Diabetes. As surprising as it sounds, the rise of Diabetes in India has decreased from 7.9% to 7.1% since the last year. The increased awareness is one of the reasons behind this dip. Research indicates that 33.7% of the people affected by Diabetes are looking to tackle this condition without the help of medication. Like HBP, Diabetes is also a condition that usually runs in the family.

“31.8% of the users claim a family history of Diabetes. Thus, it is a key illness to watch out for in the future” – India Fit Report 2019

Thyroid
Thyroid issues, unlike other diseases, has remained the same at 6.8% of the total population. Mainly women face this issue and they also deal with fluctuating weight caused by it. About 9.6% of the population reported a history of thyroid issues in the family.

The only thing good about these conditions is that they can be tackled by living a healthier and active lifestyle. Exercise, quality sleep and proper nutrition are extremely necessary in order to overcome these diseases. It is no secret that as you get older, you tend to succumb to more diseases.

According to the GOQii India Fit Report 2019, 30% of 20-30-year-olds reported some kind of medical issue, 48% of 31-45-year-olds and 74.6% of the users above the age of 60 reported some issues medically. It is very important to follow a good lifestyle from a very young age so that you can avoid these diseases in the future. As the old adage says, “Prevention is better than cure!”

From being lazy to being fit as a fiddle

Sense of accomplaihment -Gagan on the right with his team mates successfully having completed his first 100 Km Trail walk

Sense of accomplaihment -Gagan on the right with his team mates successfully having completed his first 100 Km Trail walk

He was Lazy and had no control of his food habits. But, everything changed drastically on the day his daughter was born 2 years ago. That is the day when he felt if not for anyone else, I have to get fit for my daughter.  Today, he is no more lazing on the couch. Clocks on an average 10000 or more steps daily, walks 100 km within 48 hours and even goes trekking when time permits …This is Gagandeep Singh Randhawa’s story in his own words.

I was a very lazy person for the longest time. It dawned on me to get fit when my daughter Samaira was born in April 2014.  It was to get fit for her so that I can run around and play with her. It was a wake-up call. I knew I had to do something as I was completely inactive and unfit. I was on an entrepreneurial journey and life got busy. I spent long days at work.

I started looking around to figure what options I have. I thought let’s try gym workout. And went and joined a gym. But, my laziness got the better of me and I missed out on going to the gym and working out on a regular basis due to lack of company. Then I started surfing the net to figure other options to get fit. I was looking for a fitness tracker as it was the in thing.  That is when I came across GOQii.

I read about it and found it interesting as it was offering a personal coach. I liked the idea of a personal coach as I knew there will be somebody constantly there behind you to make sure you get active. I decided to go in for GOQii and bought the band in May 2014 with Parwage Alam as my coach.

My health goal was to make my core strong and get fit and active. My coach set a target for me to clock a minimum of 10000 steps daily. In order to be able to do this I started walking regularly, I went trekking and regularly attended Active Sunday sessions. If some day my step count was less I would even take a break from work and go for a walk and come back refreshed to my work desk.

Then in December 2014, I pushed my limits further by participating in the 100 km Oxfam trail walk. My coach convinced me that I could do it. It was my first attempt at something like this. And am I glad to say that I completed successfully? It was fun and yet very challenging for me. But, I realized I could push myself and do it.

Within 3 months of getting on board GOQii, I was able to run/walk 10 km. I was on an average clocking 15000 steps daily. Now, I am able to run behind my daughter with ease. GOQii was a good wake-up call for me. I guess when it comes to fitness half the battle is won when you are able to objectively and easily assess how active you are on a daily basis.

It’s been close to two years for me with GOQii and I have enjoyed every bit of my journey to health and fitness.

I have become more cautious about what I eat and when I eat. The whole change in me I would credit to the fact that there is a coach sitting above me and keeping track of what I am doing. The moment you become answerable to someone that is your transformation. I have realized it’s not about losing weight it’s about how healthy and fit you are by exercising, eating and sleeping right and how well you rest.

It’s not only me who has seen a transformation in myself, my family has also seen the change in me. They have never seen me so active or rather I have never been so active. In fact, my family members have got inspired by me and have got themselves the band as well. I gifted my wife a band last year and she is also regular with her step count and being active on a daily basis. She is more into activities like Zumba. GOQii has definitely helped my family and friends get more fit and heart-happy.

My wife and I along with our daughter go on walks. I want my daughter to be rough and tough and for that, I have to be first fit and tough.Lastly, the concept of donating karma points appeals to me a great deal. It gives me a feel good factor.

What does Coach Parwage Alam have to say about Gangandeep?

When Gagan came on board he was completely inactive. He wanted to become active, increase stamina and be fit. He wanted to start running 5km and slowly go up to 10 km. He was very serious about bringing about a change in himself. Looking at his sincerity and seriousness, I suggested to him why just think of 5km and 10 km why not think big?

I suggested why not go ahead and participate in the 100 km Oxfam Trailwalk and practice for it. The goal was to successfully complete the 100 km. For him, it was ‘from the couch to 100 km’. He was very dedicated and practiced hard. Within 3 months he was able to run 10 km and he also completed the 100 km Oxfam Trailwalk. After this, his activities started increasing drastically. He was regular at ‘Active Sundays’. On an average, he would clock 15k steps daily.

The effect of being active has also reflected in his nutrition. He has got more conscious about what he is eating and when and how he is eating. Overall, Gagan has been able to achieve his goals because of his dedication and sincerity and by making small changes to his lifestyle. He has taken all my advice positively.  Seeing him motivated motivates me too.
