What is Bloating?

BloatingThere is a lot of confusion around ‘bloating’, a common problem that we come across in our day to day life. In fact, we are witnessing a virtual epidemic of bloating in current times. Abdominal bloating not only looks bad but also causes a lot of discomfort.

But it’s not the end of the road. The good news is that it is one of the conditions that can be avoided. However, before learning how to prevent it, we need to first understand the most common causes of bloating.

Common Causes of Bloating

  1. Constipation
Too little fibre, fluids, and physical activity may lead to constipation, which can result in bloating.
  2. Eating too fast
Eating quickly and not chewing your food well can cause air swallowing, which leads to bloating.
  3. Drinking too much carbonated beverages
The fizz in carbonated drinks (even diet ones) can cause gas to get trapped in your belly.
  4. Too much consumption of sugar-free beverages
Too much sugar alcohol in artificially sweetened foods and drinks can lead to bloating.
  5. Food allergies and Intolerance
Food allergies and intolerance can cause gas and bloating. However, these need to be confirmed by your doctor.
  6. Medical conditions
Conditions like lactose intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Giardiasis (parasite infection), colon cancer, and bacterial overgrowth can also cause bloating.

Simple ways to avoid bloating:

  • Chew your food thoroughly
Chewing breaks the food down from large particles into smaller particles that are more easily digested. This makes it easier for the intestines to absorb nutrients and prevents improperly digested food from entering your blood, which can cause bloating.
  • Exercise regularly
Physical activity helps air bubbles pass through your digestive tract more quickly, so the bloated feeling disappears faster.
  • Avoid too much water during meals
Too many liquids during meals can dilute digestive juices, which may hamper the digestion process. A small amount of liquids aids digestion, so moderation is key.
  • Avoid drinking using straws and narrow mouth bottles
These can lead to the ingestion of excess air while sucking, which may cause bloating.
  • Avoiding carbonated beverages
When carbonated drinks are opened, the compressed carbon dioxide forms bubbles and escapes into the air. Drinking large amounts forces the gas into your stomach, where it may pass to your intestines, causing bloating.
  • Eliminate smoking and Hukka
People who smoke or use Hukka inhale a lot of extra air, which can lead to bloating.
  • Avoid chewing gums and food with artificial sweeteners
Artificial sweeteners are difficult to digest and may cause bloating if consumed in excess.
  • Avoid gassy vegetables
Vegetables like beans, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, onions, radishes, melons, and broccoli can cause gas during digestion.
  • Avoid foods with air whipped into them
Foods like soufflés, sponge cakes, and milkshakes can introduce excess air into your stomach.
  • Avoid long gaps between meals
Long gaps between meals can disrupt digestion and lead to bloating.
  • Limit sodium intake
Processed foods are high in sodium, which can cause water retention and bloating.
  • Monitor fiber intake
While fiber is essential, excess fiber can cause gas as gut bacteria break it down, leading to bloating.
  • Avoid milk if you’re lactose intolerant
If your body doesn’t produce enough lactase, the enzyme needed to break down lactose, dairy can cause bloating.
  • Include Probiotics in your diet
Probiotics contain good bacteria that aid digestion and help reduce bloating.

Yoga and Exercises to Reduce Bloating

Certain yoga poses and exercises can help relieve bloating by stimulating digestion and releasing trapped gas. Try these:

  • Leg Seated Spinal Twist

  • Apanasan (Wind-relieving pose)

  • Spinal Twist

Revolutionizing Post-Transplant Care: How GrafCare is Changing Lives with AI and Genomics

Receiving an organ transplant is often described as a second chance at life. But what happens after the surgery is just as crucial as the procedure itself. The journey doesn’t end in the operating room; it begins there.

Post-transplant care is a lifelong commitment—one that involves constant monitoring, medication management, and the looming risk of organ rejection. Patients often face a multitude of challenges, including the financial burden of long-term medication, emotional stress, and the need for regular diagnostic tests. Unfortunately, traditional healthcare systems are not always equipped to provide the proactive, personalized support that transplant recipients need to ensure the success of their grafts.

Recognizing these challenges, GOQii and Acrannolife Genomics have joined forces to launch GrafCare, a revolutionary AI-powered program designed to redefine post-transplant care.

GrafCare: AI & Genomics for Smarter Health Monitoring

The GrafCare Program combines cutting-edge genomic diagnostics, artificial intelligence (AI), and personalized health tracking to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

Unlike traditional methods that react to complications after they occur, GrafCare predicts and prevents issues before they become life-threatening. Here’s how:

1. Early Detection with the Trunome Test

At the heart of GrafCare is Acrannolife’s US-patented Trunome test, a non-invasive blood test that detects early signs of organ rejection or infection. This AI-powered genomic diagnostic tool provides precise, real-time insights, allowing doctors to intervene before complications arise.

2. AI-Powered Health Monitoring

Every patient enrolled in GrafCare receives a GOQii Smart Vital Device—a wearable that continuously tracks heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and more. AI-driven analytics process this data to detect anomalies and send early alerts, ensuring that healthcare providers can step in proactively.

3. Personalized Recovery Plans & Expert Coaching

GrafCare goes beyond technology—it focuses on holistic patient well-being. The program offers:
*  Access to expert nutritionists and counsellors to design personalized recovery plans based on the patient’s genetic profile.
*  Preventive care strategies to minimize long-term health risks and dependency on emergency interventions.

4. Financial Support for Patients

One of the biggest barriers to successful post-transplant care is cost. GrafCare tackles this by offering:
* Interest-free loans for up to one year
*  Discounts on immunosuppressants (lifesaving medications that prevent organ rejection)
* Free diagnostic tests (Tacrolimus monitoring, kidney/liver function tests)

These benefits ease the financial burden on patients, allowing them to focus on what truly matters—healing and thriving.

Shaping the Future of Preventive Medicine

The GrafCare Program marks a paradigm shift in healthcare, moving from a reactive to a predictive and preventive model. This is not just a healthcare initiative—it’s a lifeline for transplant recipients.

Vishal Gondal, Founder & CEO of GOQii, emphasized the significance of this approach:

“With GrafCare, we’re harnessing the power of AI and genomics to empower patients and clinicians alike, offering a new level of care that was previously unattainable.”

Similarly, Agragesh Ramani, Co-founder of Acrannolife Genomics, highlighted the personal inspiration behind this initiative:

“Having personally experienced the transplant journey within my own family, I understand the emotional and physical challenges patients face. The GrafCare Program offers early and accurate detection of organ rejection, giving patients the best chance to protect their graft.”

A Vision for Global Healthcare

With over 20,000 transplants performed annually in India alone, and a rising global demand for advanced post-transplant care, GrafCare is poised to transform patient outcomes worldwide. Plans include expanding into Southeast Asia and the Middle East, ensuring more transplant recipients benefit from AI-driven, precision medicine.

By integrating genomics, AI, and preventive care, GrafCare is not just redefining post-transplant healthcare—it is setting a new global standard.

For those who have undergone an organ transplant, the future just got a little brighter.

3 Simple Ways to Strengthen Willpower and Achieve Goals

willpowerFrom personal experience, even you might have noticed that most resolutions to join the gym, eat a healthy diet or get proper sleep often go unfulfilled after the first month of the year. While we are often excited to start a diet routine or make exercise a habit, it never works out for long. The enthusiasm wanes and by this time around, there’s barely enough willpower to pull through.

Understanding Willpower

It isn’t completely uncommon to eat healthy for a few days and then go back to indulging in cakes and cookies. Temptations are something that the human mind can seldom control. Temptations of any kind are a good way to test ourselves, especially when trying to follow a strict diet regime.

I often wonder what could come between an individual and their goal that could make it or break it.

When I decided to take up some diet or an exercise routine, I knew the benefits of it. I knew how to do it and what to do as well. Despite all this awareness, something wasn’t right. That triggered a thought in me… I came to realize that my willpower was less!

To achieve a difficult task, one needs tremendous willpower and having the willpower to overcome difficulties in health is paramount!

Most importantly, do not confuse willpower with enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is something that can lead us to start a process, but when the initial excitement dies out, you’re back to square one! “Will” is the desire to make sure you are up to your goal and go through the process wholeheartedly to achieve that goal!

Studies have proven that taking small steps towards a large goal, structured in a sequence, strengthens practical approaches. Once you know how to approach your goal practically, it becomes easier. This, in turn, strengthens willpower. Procrastination can hamper the will. If you know you have got to do something to achieve your goal, just go ahead, work on it and complete the task.

3 Simple Tips to Strengthen Your Willpower:

1. Note Down Your Goal

Write down your thoughts or goals. Making a list helps as a reminder to keep you on track toward your goal. Make sure you write it down where it is easily visible to you. For instance:

  • A sticky note on your fridge.
  • A note on your office soft board.
  • Motivational quotes downloaded on your tab or phone.

2. Meditate For 5 Minutes a Day

  • Sit up straight and focus your attention on your breath.
  • When your mind wanders, bring your attention back to breathing

You’ll be building willpower by practicing self-awareness. When you are aware of what you are doing, you’re engaging the part of your brain responsible for willpower. Meditation not only helps you focus but also strengthens self-control. As a bonus, deep, slow breathing calms the mind and improves mental clarity.

3. Get Enough Sleep

As you know, adults need 7-8 hours of sleep daily, teens need at least 9, and kids in elementary and middle school require 10-12 hours. Sleep deprivation makes us susceptible to temptations and pulls us away from our goals. Self-control requires loats of brain power, and when we are tired, our body doesn’t deliver enough glucose to the brain to get the willpower engine going.

In conclusion, remind yourself of what you really want rather than what you think you should want. Ask yourself frequently – “How do I want to feel?” Then visualize what you will lose if you give in to temptation.

We hope this article helps you build willpower and stick to your health and life goals!
