From “Laddu Nawin” to Fit and Fierce: How a 25-Year-Old Insurance Advisor Shed 20 Kilos and Gained His Life Back

When 25-year-old Nawin Yadav from Hyderabad walked into his office every morning, he carried more than just his files and policy papers. He had the weight of fatigue, sluggish energy, and an ever-growing belly that was becoming the butt of jokes.

“People had even started calling me Laddu Nawin,” he says with a laugh, but the sting behind the nickname was real. “I was too fat, my energy was low, and I couldn’t even play a sport for more than two hours. That’s when I realised I had to change something.”

The Breaking Point

As an insurance advisor, Nawin spent long hours sitting at his desk. His meals were mostly idlis, rice, chutney, and endless cups of chai. No thought was given to calories, protein, or regular activity. Slowly, his weight crept up to 82 kilos, his belly expanded to 38 inches, and his energy levels hit rock bottom.

“I knew I wasn’t sick, but my body wasn’t healthy either. I didn’t go to a doctor. I knew the solution was in my lifestyle.”

Last October, Navin was gifted a GOQii Smart Watch. For the first two months, though, it stayed tucked away in his cupboard rather than on his wrist. It wasn’t until January 2025 that he finally unboxed it, activated it with the code, and decided to give it a try. By February, he was paired with a personal coach who began guiding him step by step on his health journey, and that’s when everything started to change.

Enter the Coaches

With Coach Priti Shah guiding him and Expert Coach Arooshi Garg stepping in with advice, Nawin found himself looking at food and fitness in a whole new light.

“What I liked the most was that everything they suggested was regular food from my kitchen,” he explains. “Nothing exotic, nothing fancy. Just learning how to balance macros, include activity, and rest well. They even taught me how to adjust every meal so I wouldn’t feel deprived.”

His coach started him off with simple, achievable changes: a 30-minute daily walk, mindful portion sizes, and tweaks to reduce bloating and improve digestion. Slowly, his sleep improved, his energy picked up, and his waistline began to shrink.

The Transformation

Fast forward a few months- 6 to be precise, and the difference is staggering.

“I’ve dropped 20 kilos. From 82, I’m now around 60–61. My belly went from 38 inches to 30.5. But more than the numbers, it’s the energy and confidence that matter,” says Nawin, his voice lighting up.

His transformation wasn’t just about weight loss. It was about discovering what his body was capable of. He proudly recalls winning a Burnout Challenge at his gym:

  • Plank for 3 minutes 15 seconds
  • Wall sit for 5 minutes and 45 seconds
  • Battle rope for 1 minute 38 seconds
  • 50–70 push-ups, back-to-back

“I never thought I could do this before. Now my body feels solid, my face has changed, and I feel like a completely different person.”

In the beginning, even his gym trainer wasn’t convinced he could turn things around quickly. The trainer told him it would take a year to shed all the extra weight and insisted he cut rice out of his meals. “Being a South Indian, I found that difficult,” Nawin recalls. “Then Coach Priti explained that I didn’t need to cut rice completely. Portion control was the key.”

Family and Friends React

The reactions from his circle have been priceless. “People look at me and say, ‘Is this Nawin or his younger brother?’” he laughs. “They can’t believe the muscular body I’ve built.”

Looking Ahead

Nawin’s current goal is to stay steady at 60 kilos. “I could probably go down to 58kgs, so my abs are more clearly visible,” he chuckles. For him, GOQii wasn’t just about losing weight; it was about discovering a way of living he could sustain for life. “Now I know how to take care of myself. It’s not about dieting, it’s about balance. And that’s what my coaches gave me.”

His journey proves that transformation doesn’t require exotic superfoods or punishing diets. With the right guidance, steady discipline, and consistent effort, even someone once nicknamed Laddu can become an inspiration to others.

As Nawin puts it, “If I can do it, anyone can. You just need to take that first step.”

Making the Shift With GOQii

In June 2019, the doctor he consulted for issues such as ulcers, nausea and fatty liver, recommended GOQii. Initially he was hesitant to subscribe as he wasn’t sure if he could keep up with the program but decided to give the GutFit program a try.

Changes Introduced By His Coach

  • For lunch he skipped chapatti and began eating Dalia and Khichdi

From Overweight to Overachieving! Vijayakrishna Iyengar User Story

Vijayakrishna Iyengar

At the age of 44, he was battling obesity and was also diagnosed with diabetes in May 2016. This was a wake up call for Vijayakrishna Iyengar to take control of his lifestyle and change it for good. A few concentrated and dedicated efforts by him, his doctor and his personal coach have helped him walk the path of good health. In about a year and a half, he lost 50kg and his blood sugar is in control with proper diet and exercise. Let’s hear his story in his own words!

Daily Life and Routine

My life was carrying along. Daily exercise was just walking on the treadmill in the gym for an hour although I followed a strict diet. I guess my biggest flaw was that I used to sleep only for 3-4 hours a day. Bad lifestyles have bad results. Mine was that I was obese, weighing around 138kg with a 48″ waist size and my shirt was 48″ as well. If that wasn’t enough, sometime around May 2016, I was diagnosed with diabetes (252) and that’s when the alarm in my head went off!

Suddenly, there was a need to rectify my habits in order to lead a medical-free and healthy life. I immediately started with some activities on my own. I started going to the gym and began walking on the treadmill. I was only resorting to cardio exercises and ignoring the other aspects of fitness. I had no guidance coming my way so I was not sure if I was doing the right thing.

Enter GOQii

I wanted to start doing the right things. I began by searching for a fitness band and came across many products. Then I came across GOQii! What I liked about GOQii is that it was not just a fitness band but a subscription for personal coaching which focused on holistic healthcare. The personal coach would guide you on fitness and nutrition.

GOQii went out of the way to ensure healthy habits are imbibed by the users. I found that very appealing and chose GOQii. I was very fortunate to get an excellent GOQii Coach who understood my goals which were weight reduction and to get fit, and my coach began advising very relevant habits which I could follow.

Earlier, when I had started going to the gym I only focused on the treadmill but my coach refined that and added strength exercises and core workouts. She also emphasized the importance of proper deep sleep and its advantages. Gradually, the habits set in. It’s not possible to change yourself in a day. With concentrated efforts and discipline, I am now able to sleep well for seven hours. Also, I do proper well-balanced cardio, strengthening and core workouts.

My water intake has improved and I regularly take at least 2L of water a day. All these positive habits helped me to sustain my efforts and make it a habit for a lifetime.

My strict diet (prescribed by my Doctor) followed with proper exercises helped me to reduce my weight (50kg and both trousers & shirts reduced by 10 inches) and the habits imbibed because of GOQii helps me sustain that. With these lifestyle changes for the better, I feel very good and positive about myself. My goal is now to reach a weight target of 75kg.

What Does Vijayakrishna Iyengar Have to Say About GOQii?

I cannot thank GOQii enough! The best part of having been on GOQii is that I can earn Karma Points for being healthy. These points I have been donating to charity. So I am doing my bit for the society as well, which otherwise, we seldom do. I have been maintaining a streak of 211 days (of walking more than 12,000 steps each day) and this helped me to earn a good amount of Karma Points.

Apart from being self-motivated and having a coach to further amplify that motivation, the other big motivating factor is earning Karma points. Whenever I walk, someone who may be underprivileged or having health issues gets the right treatment or support for food or education. What else is required to get motivated to move or to be healthy?

Among the other brands who just sell the band, GOQii focuses on mind, body and soul through physical fitness, meditation, and Karma points. Apart from that, having a dedicated GOQii Coach who understands the unique challenges of individuals and guides them properly to achieve their fitness goal makes it a unique product and service.

What Does His GOQii Coach Have to Say?

Vijayakrishna Iyengar was very determined and motivated when he came on board. I am really impressed by his sincerity. He always tried to do more than the target step count and never missed his workout. Along with cardio exercises, we also worked on doing core workouts and strength training. He has also started slow jogging. Sleep duration and quality improved by avoiding electronic gadgets before bedtime and going to bed by 10:30 pm. I am sure he will achieve his goal to be in normal BMI soon. Seeing him so motivated, motivates me too!

We hope you found this story about Vijayakrishna Iyengar to be motivating! Go on and make a positive lifestyle change today and #BeTheForce!

Overcoming the Odds! Aliya Imran’s Journey to Fitness

overcoming the odds Aliya Imran

How many times have we come across movies or a television drama series where the protagonist defies all the odds, overcomes challenges and despite all the insurmountable hurdles, wins? We can’t ignore the obvious catharsis we feel and the emotional bonds we form with a protagonist’s journey. We can’t deny the overwhelming sense of joy we experience at their eventual success.

While we all love rooting for a beloved fictional character, we need to remember that there are real heroes out there who face their own struggles head on and emerge victorious. One such hero is none other than our GOQii Play Coach Aliya Imran.

Born in Mumbai, Aliya Imran spent some years in the city and then shifted to Vadodara. Although her schooling was normal, she did not experience a peaceful childhood. Despite her emotionally challenging circumstances, she was a healthy child. At the age of 13, Aliya was diagnosed with jaundice. It was so severe that no doctor was willing to admit her in their hospital. Stress coupled with a weak immune system triggered Vitiligo (A disease that causes the loss of skin colour in blotches) which became a permanent feature. Her Vitiligo increased and decreased with her stress levels.

She married at the age of 19, moved to Gurugram and completed her graduation. The trauma from a miscarriage at the age of 22 further aggravated her Vitiligo, causing it to spread all over her hands and face. She delivered her first child in 2009. Her weight had then increased to 79 kg. After being blessed with a second child in 2011, her weight further increased to 85 kg. Her Vitiligo issue hadn’t gotten any better.

She faced discrimination due to her Vitiligo issue. One such instance was during a pilgrimage with her family, a woman serving herself some food beside her threw the plate and walked away in disgust after looking at Aliya’s Vitiligo patches. By the end of 2013, she returned to Mumbai. At this point in time, Aliya felt completely hopeless about her weight gain issue as well as her skin condition. Something had to be done!

Becoming the Change

One fine day, she decided that she had enough! She thought to herself, “If I can’t fix Vitiligo, let me at least fix my weight!” She immediately joined a gym nearby. Not wasting a moment, she sat on the Spinning Bike and started spinning with vengeance! She didn’t have a clue about exercise or fitness and there was no one to guide her either. She just went with whatever caught her attention.

Soon enough, she began running along with working out. She performed high intensity cardio with a day’s rest, never skipped a single gym day for 3 months and managed to reduce 9 kg. Later, she returned to Gurugram, joined a college and completed an Interior Designing course. She joined a gym there as well. Obsessed with fitness, she used to do stair exercises before hitting the gym. Her family members and friends thought she had gone crazy but that didn’t stop her.

She slowly began weight training. She used to have only one meal a day without realizing that it was a fasting method. After attending one of GOQii Master Coach Luke Coutinho’s sessions, she found out that what she had been doing was Intermittent Fasting. This further encouraged her to fine tune her eating habits. She strictly avoided junk and outside foods and sought a high protein diet.

By the end of 2014, she weighed only 50 kg. She had lost 25 kg in a year without going on any crash diet. She achieved this through mindful eating and intense physical activity only. This gave a tremendous boost to her self-confidence, especially when her college and neighborhood acquaintances commented on her physique and unbelievable age.

One such instance of the boost in her confidence was when she was discriminated again for her skin condition. It was at a spa when an attendant refused to touch her. This was a similar situation as before but only this time, Aliya stood up for herself. Her confidence was sky high, never to be deterred again.

Passion, Determination and Success

Around this time, gym instructors suggested that she take up fitness as a profession. They were convinced that she would be a success considering her dedication and hunger for fitness. Taking their advice, she completed her Zumba certification in 2016 and also got a spinning license. Between 2015-2016, she achieved professional success, accolades and was sought by leading gyms in Gurugram to join them as an instructor.

Aliya Imran shifted to Mumbai in 2017. She completed a few more certifications which included Pilates Training License and Reebok Training. Aliya also completed a certification in Personal Training and Nutrition from Dubai. She opened a home studio and began taking in clients, both from India and abroad.

In 2018, she acquired a Master Functional Training certification by ACE. Later that year, in September, she came to GOQii. She identified with the GOQii ideology that thrives on guiding and motivating people to lead a healthier lifestyle. The rest is history! Since joining GOQii Play as a coach, Aliya has had 1,734.3k views, 1,231k likes and has 183,347 players who have enrolled for her class! If that’s not amazing, then what is?

It wasn’t an easy journey to have come this far. She had to constantly maintain her weight from 2014 to 2019, improvise on her own fitness and at the same time bring variety and content to her clients. Aliya Imran attributes her success to her persistent efforts, her never-say-die attitude and the will to change without getting bogged down by limitations. She also thanks God for the tremendous support she has received from her family and her husband for motivating her.

We all face hurdles from time to time. If you have faced similar issues, know that there is always a way you can beat your circumstances and emerge as the best version of yourself!
