“If I am fit, my family is fit”

A

He had bordered close to being overweight due to an inactive and erratic lifestyle. He blamed it on his job in the real estate sector. Secondly, he has been an asthmatic since his kinder days and has been on medication for the same. The medication has created problems in his eyes so much so that it was on the verge of leading to Glaucoma. He wanted to rectify his state of health. Moreover, his wife was into regular fitness but, he never heeded her advice. Although he was always aware he had to get better for himself and his family. Riteish’s story in his own words.

I am in the real estate business and I have been in this industry for the last 20 years. My lifestyle has been extremely erratic and I used to binge a lot especially at night. My job is such that I never had my meals on time. As a result used to eat anything anytime. When I was younger it was fine I could cope with it. But, as age catches up this kind of erratic lifestyle brings with it several medical issues. I already am an asthmatic since my kinder days.

But, the one good thing that I have learned from my parents is to get an annual medical check-up done. This annual check-up gives you a clear indication of where you stand in terms of your health statistics. I wasn’t in good shape as per the reports. I was 95 kilos, sugar was borderline, hypertension could have become a concern and due to my asthmatic medication, the pressure in my eye was high which could eventually lead to Glaucoma I was told by my doctor. The net result of all these issues was that I was not in good shape. I wanted to change but, I was not able to do anything on my own.

My wife is very regular with her fitness and even runs marathons. She was running the marathon early this Jan and I had gone with her to the expo to collect her BIB. On my way out, I stopped by at the GOQii stall. I started chatting with one of the GOQii personnel who was explaining GOQii and its concept to me. I found it appealing.

I immediately chose GOQii for its comfort, ease of use, design, tracking features and above all the coaching factor and Karma points – all of which I loved. My physical activity will appear on my wrist using one button which makes it super easy to use. Having all my stats linked, recorded, and easily accessible on my phone and be monitored regularly by my coach who would be able to easily check-in on my progress seemed fantastic to me.

I spoke to my coach Dr. Amrita Saghu and discussed my problems with her in detail. My health goal was to lose 10 kilos within 3-4 months. She brought about a few changes in my lifestyle. I started to go for brisk walks, playing Tennis, made changes in food with the inclusion of fruits.

She also gave me weekly challenges such a sugar-free week, increasing AB exercises, stair climbing –first slow and then increased the intensity. Over the last three months since I have got the band I have been doing a whole lot. On a daily basis, I have been clocking an average of 12-13K steps. I have also started playing Tennis seriously.

Sometimes when I think about myself and how I went in for GOQii program, I find it funny. Funny because my wife is into fitness and a trainer herself but, never once did I bother to listen to her and her warnings. Every time she would ask me to get back on track I would make excuses. But, when I realized I had gone overboard with being unhealthy and decided to go in for a fitness band. It is after I got on the GOQii platform that I realized I had to remove time for myself and my health. If I do not make an effort then nobody can help me.

The lifestyle change has done well for me. I work out regularly, I am conscious about what I am eating and my meals are more wholesome now. My asthma is also under control. As per my health goal that I had set for myself I have part reached my goal. In 3 months I have lost about 7 kilos. My target is to get to 78 kilos. Proper nutrition and exercise tips helped him to get back on track. I have attended one or two GOQii active Sundays and also attended Luke Coutinho’s webinar on how to get the best out of your coach.

Tracking my physical activity through GOQii inspires me to keep moving. With so much on I can overcome time challenge by regularly monitoring my daily steps and pushing myself to make sure I reach my target if I feel I’m falling short. My coach and my own effort are helping me hit my target of 12k-13k steps walking and through other activities each day. ‘If I am fit my family is fit’.

How do I feel about myself? I feel great about myself. I am more confident and above all, I feel very positive. My happiness knew no bounds when I went to the store to buy myself a T-shirt and instead of an XXL I, this time around picked an XL T-shirt. My wife is also happy about the change I have undergone. People around me are all seeing this change in me and are amazed.

What does Coach Dr. Amrita Saghu have to say about RiteishParwani?

Riteish has been an active person right from the start. His goal was weight reduction. We started with regularizing his diet which was erratic prior to joining GOQii. There were large gaps between his main meals that were contributing to him eating unhealthy food on a regular basis. Apart from that, he would eat a heavy meal in one sitting. After getting on the GOQii platform he has become very conscious about what he eats. We added fruits and salads in his daily diet. The gap between his meals was reduced. Healthy snacks were introduced. His own efforts and dedication were enormous. He would share his exercise plans, diet plans with me daily. We would talk about the health benefits of the fruit or vegetable that he would be having later in the day. He also suffers from Asthma, with the exercise and the medicines he is experiencing a lot of improvement. His commitment towards his health is excellent. The two things that we work together on are Riteish’s effort and dedication and GOQii’s coaching which has helped him achieve his goals. I am sure that Riteish’s success story will inspire a lot of people who want to lead a healthy life.

“My ultimate goal is to increase my immunity and live a very long healthy life”

Jigar working out at home

Jigar working out at home

The day of reckoning comes to nearly all of us. A favorite pair of jeans won’t zip up; the idea of doing any physical work is exhausting; a walk around the apartment block is enough to tire you and send you to bed. Worse, you learn you have cholesterol at a really young age or find your weight is crushing your knees. It’s the day you do not feel good about yourself and realize it’s time that you need to start exercising and get fit and healthy. Jigar Gala was sailing in this very boat but, decided to not be complacent. Instead, he worked hard to get healthy.

I am 27 and I have had a very sedentary lifestyle. There was no form of physical activity whatsoever. I am an operations manager in a Public Limited company and I work from 10-6pm. I travel 12 days in a month. Diet was not right as I ate anything as and when I wanted to. I was eating cheese, butter, and fried items all the time and did not care. My water intake was low and I never ever felt energetic. Eventually, my cholesterol and Triglyceride levels also increased.

Since my wife Charmi Gala is a coach with GOQii I got more intrigued about GOQii. I used to watch and hear her talk to her players giving them suggestions. She would constantly tell me how her player has improved or changed his lifestyle and got better. But, I never really bothered so much. My wife suggested going in for a GOQii band so that I can discipline myself and get back on track.

Six months ago I went ahead and got myself a GOQii band and said let me try it out and see if it’s working. My coach is Geetika Patni. I realized that no matter what a coach tells you finally it is me who has to implement all that is being told to me in the right way and in a disciplined manner if not I would be a loser.

My first health goal was to reduce my cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The doctor actually recommended medicines for the same but then I was also warned that there could be side effects of the medicines. After I have achieved the first goal I decided I will focus on how to be active and lastly lifestyle changes, increase water intake etc.

Thanks to GOQii within 6 months I have been able to bring down my Cholesterol and triglyceride levels. My Cholesterol levels were high at 310 and triglycerides was at 350. Currently, my cholesterol is at 180 and triglycerides at 130.

Along with my coaching, I have been greatly inspired by Luke Coutinho, the master coach of GOQii. In fact, thanks to Luke I have been able to make small changes. I watch his videos repeatedly on YouTube to get motivation when I get cravings of unhealthy things

Just small changes to your diet and lifestyle coupled with discipline can do wonders to you and your health. I am extremely happy as my cholesterol is under control and my nutritional habits have changed for the better. I am not eating any junk and fried food items or anything unhealthy. I think before I eat.

I have also started walking. Trying to do 10,000 steps at once seemed hard to do. But, going on a little walk in the morning, and another later in the evening helped my steps add up. I walk at a moderate pace daily for 45 minutes. Also, twice a week I do free body exercise.

What I have realized over a period of time is that even if you’re someone who struggles with fitness, or if being active doesn’t come naturally to you, you can do it—and it can all be done with just walking. You don’t have to go out and kill yourself every day, just set a goal with GOQii and ease into it.

Becoming physically active has changed my attitude towards life. It has automatically helped me increase my water intake. I drink around 2.5 liters daily. Earlier was not even managing 1 liter. I have a reminder in my phone that reminds me to drink water at regular intervals. Now, I have cultivated the habit. With regard to sleep, I never had an issue.

Goqii concept is really wonderful, they are creating right awareness while all other companies just want to sell products. Today people have many options out there for your health and fitness. But, what GOQii is doing is that it is creating that balance and helping change your lifestyle by making very small changes. It’s no rocket science but many of the aspects such as exercise, food, water, sleep etc we have always taken it for granted and over the years these things have affected our health. Last but not the least the coach is a motivating factor in this entire GOQii ecosystem.

My wife is happy that I am following my coach’s advice. When she used to tell me to do all these things I would never take her seriously. Now I realize that what she used to tell me was for my own good. I am seeing the change in myself and she has seen me change for the better.

My message to one and all is that GOQii is here to help you change yourself. Try it and you will see massive changes in your lifestyle. No matter how much you travel or work. The solution of your health is in our hands but we run here and there to solve the health issue. We just need to heal our body in the correct way and build stronger Immunity

My Life Mantra :-

— Balance nutrition

— 7 hour of sound sleep

— more than 2L daily water intake

— managing stress

— daily activity (sports / walking / running / exercise etc )

Last but not the least, I like the karma concept that has been weaved into this ecosystem. I try to donate as much as I can. The whole idea of clocking more steps to be able to donate is a wonderful thing. My ultimate goal is to increase my immunity and lead a very long healthy life.

What does Coach Geetika Patni have to say about Jigar Gala?

Jigar is a very supportive player. His initial goal was to control cholesterol levels, which was a bit high along with weight reduction of 10kgs. Cholesterol levels got down once he started following right nutritional practices and maintained a regular exercise routine, all of which he is still continuing and which has helped him in weight loss too. He is very curious with respect to his nutrition and adopts to all suggestions. Current workout routine includes 40 minutes of walking but, has also tried Tabata workouts in the past. He is doing very well and am sure he’ll find his perfect balance of lifestyle soon.

“I needed to be health conscious and not be on the sidelines of life”

Before & After-Natarjan

He works in the marketing department of a News Media organization and claims he has had a near sedentary lifestyle with spurts of fitness on and off. He weighed 88 kgs and was on the verge of being classified as overweight and also bordering on being diabetic. That’s when he realized he needed to be health conscious and not be on the sidelines of life….Here is Natarajan Viswanathan’s story in his own words.

I never had a fitness regime in my life. I would once in a while feel that I think I need to lose weight and I would spring into action following an exercise regime. I would remain focused, taking my resolution to lose weight seriously but soon lose interest and again go back to being laid back. I took up a gym membership for 3 years but barely hit the gym religiously, hardly making any difference to my weight or the fitness factor. Friends and family made fun of me for not being able to hold on to any fitness regime.

In December 2014, I went for a full body check-up. All the tests were normal but, I was told by the doctor that I was bordering on diabetes. I have a family history of diabetes. What the doctor said then scared me and that is when I got serious about reducing my weight and getting fit.

One evening we had a college reunion and there I got introduced to GOQii by a friend of mine. He explained how it works and what it can do for me. This discussion got me interested. But, he did have a word of caution when he said that just wearing it will not reduce your weight but one needs to make efforts to get active and reduce weight. Things just don’t happen.

Before:

Pre-Diabetic:

  • Doctor advised reducing weight.
  • Had lost 14 kgs weight earlier but now weight had plateaued with no loss despite efforts.
  • Wants to walk 6 km per day

My journey with GOQii started in April 2015 and got Komilla Pareekh as my coach. They say that every journey needs motivation and direction. The band provided the much-needed motivation and the coach gave me the right direction. Many a time you want to do it but you either do not know how to go about it or you are plain lazy. I chose Komilla as my coach because she is a nutritionist and for my journey to a fitter life, I knew I should eat well and right.

When I got on to GOQii my health goal was to become fitter and reduce my weight. I wanted to fit into a pair of jeans I had got out of for a long long time.

I worked towards it along with my coach and am I glad to say that I have achieved my health goals. I have reduced considerably from 88 kgs I am down to 74 kgs.

My pre-diabetic condition is under control and I run 10 km now four days a week and my bigger goal is to run the Marathon in 2017.

After:

  • Improved nutrition by focusing on high fibre, high protein and small frequent meals.
  • Introduced millets in the diet. Cut down fruits at night, added a salad to meals.
  • Worked on knees and back exercises.
  • Morning walks After Surpassed 6km goal. Starting jogging now. Weight loss and inch loss.

The good news is that I got into the pair of jeans that I wanted to get into for a long time.

Personally, how do I feel now? I feel fantastic. I have become more presentable. I never had confidence or communication issues but, I will not deny that now after having made these changes to life, my first impression in business meetings is good.

All these changes in me have also been noticed by my near and dear ones. I have been a great influencer to people around me and also got 4 others to register on GOQii.  I will certainly continue with GOQii and be motivated to be healthy and active.Another super initiative is the Karma point initiative. You can earn points and donate them to a cause you believe in. It gets you connected to your social quotient. So I have donated 4000 points to the education cause and for the Chennai floods. Great initiative. Keep it going.

What does Coach Komilla have to say about Natarajan?

When Natarajan joined GOQii, he had plateaued on his weight, despite having lost 14 kgs in past due to his will and determination. Being a borderline diabetic, he was advised by his doctor to lose a couple of more kgs to avoid medication. Also, he was nurturing a dream of walking 6 km in a single stance and to participate in a Marathon. The journey was not easy, but surelya challenging one full of hurdles- knee pain, back pain, time constraint, sweet craving, Mumbai rains …..but, he never lost the focus. Today, he runs not walks 10 km in a single stance and has lost weight and inches to settle on his healthy weight. The biggest strength of our relationshipand working was mutual trust and belief. Natarajan truthfully discussed all the challenges faced by him in working towards our goals and kept firm belief in his coach. That is the secret of our success!

“It is not about losing weight but, it is the way you look at things and how you manage it”

Every player of GOQii is a new story with a new experience. Today we bring you the story of a not so fit housewife and entrepreneur to a fit housewife and entrepreneur now. She credits GOQii Coach for bringing about the positive lifestyle change in her and getting her on a health trail. Here is Ruchi Sandhu’s story in her own words.

I have never been a fitness freak and I was on the heavier side. I was conscious about my   weight gain and had gained weight over a long period of time. I was neither paying any attention towards my weight gain nor was I trying to reduce it. I also did not bring about any change in my diet. To sum it up I was just not paying too much attention to my health and overall well-being.

Then, during my regular check with my doctor, she suggested I do an Insulin test. In that test, it was revealed that I was Insulin resistant and, therefore, my sugar levels were down.  I was on medication to control my insulin levels but the doctor suggested that only medication is not going to improve the situation. I was asked to get active and also bring about changes in my diet. These were the only ways to bring down the insulin levels to the required levels I was told.

IMG_1406

Before:

  • Insulin resistant
  • Weight Gain-79 kgs
  • Has a personal trainer – Though no control on her diet
  • On a crash diet – Eating less
  • Skip dinner – Munch on unhealthy snacks

Soon after the doctor’s advice, I joined the gym and then my husband’s friend suggested that he has got a GOQii band and that I must try it too.  I said ok and got the GOQii band and got associated with my personal coach Disti Shah.

Believe me, when I say this that I have never been happier with myself. My main health goal when I started on GOQii was to reduce my weight and with that, the Insulin levels would also come down. I worked along with my coach towards achieving this goal.

Disti helped me make small changes such as what I eat when I eat, how much I eat etc. She disciplined me in my eating habits. I am very conscious now of what I eat, how much I eat. It has been a wonderful experience for me in the last one year or so ever since I got GOQii as my insulin levels have come down.

I am more disciplined now with regard to eating. I used to have a very sweet tooth and my coach put me on a sugar-free challenge. The first time I failed miserably. But, my coach did not give up. After a few days, she once again out me on a sugar-free challenge. And the second time around I was able to resist myself off sugar. Whenever I get a sweet craving I replace it with dates. I have also controlled my midnight cravings for sweets. .

After:

  • Eating at regular intervals – Not skipping any meals
  • Weight reduced to 73 kgs and automatically Insulin levels have come down
  • Took on the sugar-free week challenge – replaced sweets with dates
  • Urge of having sweets has reduced
  • Added pre – workout and post workout meals – thus her energy through the workout is consistent

Off late I have not been able to work out so much as I am on some medication and my gynecologist has asked me to do strenuous workouts. But, my health goal remains the same. I want to lose some more weight. Disti has been largely helping me with my healthy eating habits and has also given me some home workout options. I am trying to do whatever I am able to do.

The one thing I have realized with GOQii is that it is not about losing weight but, it is the way you look at things and how you do it. For me personally, it has been a positive lifestyle change.

I am a kind of person who does not like to take advice from anyone but Disti has been able to break that has changed my perspective and outlook towards life. I am a better off now than I ever was. I thoroughly enjoy the personal attention I get from my coach.  The best part of all these changes is that my husband is very happy with me for having taken all the efforts and watching it pay off for me.

1

Ruchi Singhvi looking her best

What does Coach Disti Shah have to say about Ruchi?

As a coach my dream to get a player who follows your guidance and suggestions. Ruchi is one of those few people who has really taken the GOQii journey seriously and made sure to reach her targets. The dedication and self-determination of Ruchi towards her target, got me also excited to work with her. The two of us never had a coach and player relationship, it was more a friendly chat and discussion that we used to have.

Her health goal was to decrease fat percentage and insulin resistance, which she achieved by sheer dedication towards diet and exercise. This is just a beginning of a long journey and she really defined the journey well by saying: “It’s the journey that matters and not the destination”.

 Achievements of Ruchi:

  1. Insulin level dropped from 48 to 21.
  2. Decreased body fat percentage.
  3. Regular exercises.
  4. More focus on fruits and salads.
  5. Increased protein intake, by making sure, each major meal has the protein source.
  6. One week of No Sugar challenge was completed and thus continuing to reduce sugar intake further.
  7. Short and frequent meals.
  8. Updating logs at regular intervals even when traveling abroad.

From Shimla’s Slopes to Chandigarh’s Sidewalks: Surinder Kaur Bhalla’s Journey from Chaos to Control
